how much storage do you use a year?

So your hardrives & ssdīs on your pc or laptop gets filled to fuck, how often do you download the content onto storage drives?

Personally, we use a TB every year & have a new drive for each year, to keep it safe. This contains our original images & film from that year, also a HD edit film from that year ready for resale or if we need to update any website from corrupt updates.

Our laptop that we usually work from has a tb, so that fills up over the year & is emptied to about 200gb, which is downloads, videos & photos, left on the drive to be used on daily basis.

Interested to know how much content other producers & creators are using, also site & blog owners, everyone in general, how much data are you storing & using every year?

Are you happy storage costs have gone down & some good prices for some great drives out there...

bonus question. When is RAM going to decrease in price? I heard some robberies are happening at the moment due to lack of RAM for sale!

I have an internal 3 TB back up drive as well as a external 3 TB back up drive on my computer that updates every couple of days. Sometimes to save clients money I'll do a lot of their graphics etc which they appreciate

Do you still use external drives to keep your code & sites on a safe storage or do you trust in everything being on a server someone else in the world?

While trusting in our server, personally, good idea to keep your stuff on your self too

Of course... 1tb external timecapsule for Mac, gets backed up daily... although there is less than 300 gigs actually being used.

None. I have nothing to back up. All of the pictures I take are automatically put online with Google Pics. That's all I need.

Are your storage drives not tax deductible in Spain? Mine are in the UK - So price is irrelevant as its a business expense?

I take it, youīre dealing in code & not video & photo files?

1tb storage disks are just 60 quid here, so once a year, not even worth worrying about putting through the books. Some times easier just to pay it out. Most business expenses are similar, although, somethings, like wifi, itīs questionable, Spain suggests it would be an asset used in the home anyway.

My machine is treated as ephemeral. All code is in remote git repositories, photos and video auto sync with iCloud, and documents are on iCloud+

I could toss my machine in the ocean right now and be back up and running in an hour from getting a new MacBook.

I take it you trust in the cloud a lot...

I must admit, itīs only recently Iīve heard about hard drives deteriating & it does make us worry about our content from 10 yr ago. Hearing itīs best to plug drives in every 6 months or so and run them for a bit...

I can't speak for massive amounts of content like what you guys have, but for my usecases absolutely. All my photos are taken with my iphone so immediately on icloud, my machines are all mac so I have icloud syncing for documents, that covers all my needs.

I also don't have physical media and haven't since ~2014. I strictly stream everything and buy all my movies from Apple Movies and watch them on my AppleTV

Actually I take that back I have the all of Tales from the Crypt on DVD because I can't find it streaming anywhere.

a decade of photo and video creation fits on one external drive.

a few years ago transferred everything from a big box of cds/dvds.

So much too much. Every year, I think I should get a NAS ... and then I price out what it would cost with the size I'd need. With AI demand, storage is actually getting more expensive, unlike how that sort of tech used to go.
