Contrast And Compare - Sobe's SuperMpeg vs WMV
I know one of the reasons MPEG is favored is because surfers think they are superior AND the fact that most every surfer can play them no problem while WindowsMedia causes some problems with surfers not having codecs etc.
But on quality I really think WMV is as good or better. Here are two similar movies in terms of file size. One is a movie posted by FTVGirls, 30 second WMV movie, movie size is 640 x 480, file size is 3.9 MB. Second movie is :33 seconds long, size is 560 x 384, and the file size is about 3.5 MB. According to SobeGirl Eric, it's a propietary codec he developed called SuperMpeg. Play SuperMpeg Demo Play WMV Demo Good comparison because the movies are fairly close in byte size. Forget about the content, which one do you think is better quality?

ok, what about this SuperMPEG vs standard MPEG-1?
SobeGirl's SuperMpeg versus one of your MPEG-1's of a similar length? How many kbytes is a 33 second MPEG on your site?

It would be an interesting comparison if I could view the darm wmv file. My computer barfs on "getting required coded".. Oh well, back to the MPG...

I think the FTV Girls video looks better. In most cases, MPG tends to be better quality but a lot of that is due to people being overly stingy with the bitrate slider when encoding their WMV files. As long as the person encoding the WMV is reasonable with the datarate and other options, WMVs can look OK, but they are still not as widely supported as other forms of AVI and MPGs.

well as quiet said it's kinda moot cuz surfers definitely got boners for MPEG. I've seen surfers say it's mpeg or nothing.
But if the content is good it doesn't matter, Ox and Nasty only have WMV I believe and it hasn't hurt their success.

The only problem the guys at ox had.. was when they went all .asf.... and they started getting mad complaints... so they went back to mpeg and asf
I only use wmv and I dont get any complaints.. I thought that anyone with a windows machine could see wmv files.. |
