I'm switching hosts -- going to Reflected.net

Well my ICQ is going a little bit crazy with LikeWhoa having problems. This is very unfortunate and I'm going to lose quite a bit of traffic in the meantime. These things happen and I'm not one to panic.

Boneprone is sleeping at the moment... we had a brief conversation regarding the downtime around 8:30 AM EST... I've consulted with some other BP4L family members and as far as I can tell nobody has made a definitive decision. I think I get pretty good advice from my nerd friends so I have decided to make a public announcement as to my move. I don't transfer TONS of bandwidth, but I do think that people are interested in where BP4L is going with its hosting decision -- because there is obviously a lot of chatter on the subject whenever it becomes an issue...

I think I know what Boneprone is going to do... but he can decide what to do when he wakes up. In the meantime I'm going to host with an old friend at Reflected.net -- I've had stuff hosted with them for years now so it's not too big of a deal... They have boxes in Chicago on the same bandwidth as Google so I'm not really concerned about uptime I look forward to doing more biz with LikeWhoa in the future. I have a feeling that my move to Reflected.net will be strategic with what Boneprone decides on...

Nick has told me that he is improving his upstream relationships and I am confident in his abilities, but this downtime is not good for my business.

Lots of guys are sending me ICQ's asking me where I'm moving to... This is not an simple choice -- because I have a keen interest in the hosting biz and there are friendships involved...

I know there's some drama in the hosting biz, but purely from my standpoint I know that reflected.net and isprime have a good working relationship -- I'm not sure if that will come into play in the future, but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy for now if any other BP4L people move to isprime -- I know AaronM is already over at isprime and he always seems enthusiastic about them.

I'd rather not get into any drama over this -- I just want to make my position clear -- my decision to move to reflected.net is the best move for my business and I feel comfortable with company on a personal level and from a technical standpoint. Based on my experience, it is very important to have a personal relationship with your host and also confidence in the nerds behind the keyboards...

Talk to Boneprone -- he hasn't made a choice yet... It wasn't really a choice for me because I'm already using Reflected.net for half of my sites...

Unless isprime doesn't come up with BP4L-style servers, they're not an option.

Sounds like you talked to Lane about this

I think Boneprone started the whole "Family Host" deal... it really was a brilliant idea, I would hate to see that fudged.

Interesting..

reflected.net is obviously not up yet.. A work in progress. It's essentially the combining of two companies.

But, thanks for the plug. Also, we do not "have the same bandwidth as google", unless you mean we have pipes from some of the same providers as them. I don't want to start any untruths.

Essentially, we're ready to go, just waiting to turn up some upstreams before we go-live. I'm sure some of you have seen our AVN ads and said "wtf" a few times.

If anyone needs to get up ASAP, just hit me up and I'll make sure we get you taken care of. I know it sucks to be down. Even if you just need a temporary spot to put your site for a week until you have time to sort things out, hit me up. I'll do that for no charge.

Anyways, thanks for the plug, albeit a bit soon. To say I'm excited about this new project is an understatement!

-Phil

I am moving all my stuff too ... I hit Oxeo up Wednesday with some questions, they got back to me yesterday, and the only decision I have left to make is wich of the great options they offered me I'm going to take them up on. I already had about a third of my stuff there ... they're going to get all of it very, very soon.

Thanks for the mention, Pimproll. Servergod is currently offering dedicated boxes @ $150 a month with 50 gigs of transfer, then $1 a gig after that. And, as always, no set up fee. If we can help anyone out, let us know.

I don't mean to be rude, but Phat Servers can kill that price, as can many others. You're charging $1 per gig overage? Come on man...

I think the only adult hosting companies you should even think about (other than reflected ;)) are

http://www.swiftco.net

and

http://www.isprime.com

both have good prices and host a lot of big people in the industry, so they know what it takes to host adult stuff. Just my opinion though

This will be my final post on the matter. Our goal is not to get into a pricing war on the boards and take up valuable message space and time. If you're seriously looking, feel free to gather a few quotes and run them by us for comparison to what we can offer you. We'll gladly chat with you about your concerns and your unique hosting needs. I'm sure we can work something out with most anyone and offer you a high quality of service, as we have been offering to our clients for the last several years.

See Phil is humble too LOL Ok I just got excited surfing the Equinix website http://www.equinix.com/ so that's why I said that stuff about Google... as far as I know you guys have the boxes in Chicago -- which from my understanding is important because it's centrally located geographically in the USA... I just spoke to Jim a former LikeWhoa employee -- he says he will have some customers over at Equinix also. Everyone I talk to about this place says it's badass... Personally I'm kindof excited to see it hehe...

Hmm you didn't leave any contact information... I'm not sure if this phone # is supposed to be public yet but here goes... 888-318-1539 -- Phil's ICQ is 25285313

Nick has told me that he is improving his upstream relationships and I am confident in his abilities, but this downtime is not good for my business.
No disrespect here, but have you had your coffeee this morning?....Are you thinking with a clear head?
You would actually consider doing business with that piece of shit after what he has pulled?....lie after lie.

I have heard of being loyal but that is ridiculous. If that was my own brother, I would knock the living shit out of him until I was tired.

You're only interested in this from a business standpoint... but I will throw in 2 more cents. Nick may not be a model of human perfection, but I appreciate much of his work. #1 you don't know either of us personally, and I doubt you know how Nick started in this biz -- he is technically very capable.

To give you an idea -- most people do not understand what AdultCentro is yet -- yet I can pick up the technical specifications that were patented -- the specifications that a team of coders were given and understand it perfectly -- this is the stuff that I live for! This is why I like Nick -- reading that specification was like reading an enjoyable book or like looking at a beautiful painting. If you don't enjoy software design, then you probably can't relate -- I've been designing software since I was a little kid playing Spacewars coded in straight assembly.

If you know about coding software -- you know that many programs survive, and even more fail -- the development process is never ending and full of roadblocks and difficult challenges -- some of which are never resolved -- but that is not effort wasted. On the contrary. What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger -- that effort is never wasted energy because you gain experience from the process and you have good code that can be re-used. Look at OS/2 -- IBM is not stupid -- they were resourceful and gambled on OS/2 for the public -- they already used that operating system internally to their operations. They gambled on OS/2 because they could -- yes it failed -- does that mean that IBM is a failure? No. Do you know what company has the most patents in the world? IBM. They incentivize ideas. And Nick encourages and values ideas within his company. I live for ideas, that's why I design software for fun and that's why I'm a professional artist. So I have common interests with Nick. So there's your answer.

A word of advice -- don't make assumptions that all relationships are dictated by money -- there's more to life, so get one.
