Business What domain registrars do you like these days?

I've got accounts at multiple registrars and a bunch of them have me worried about the safety of my domains, plus they have all raised their rates. Like Resell can't vault credit cards for renewals any more and GoDaddy is always trying to sneak in insanely priced renewals and Moniker has a weird separate login and they all just kind of worry me at this point.

Anyone here using a registrar they like?

namecheap is the only registrar i have really used, besides network solutions back in the day in the late 90's. but that was the only choice available at the time.

i have used moniker on occasion when i bought a domain off someone, which i eventually transfered away.

I like Godaddy as its easiest to use. I will try Cloudflare next since I use it for everything else domain-related.

Dynadot has a lot of good tools and good prices if you have many domains.

Very much like Fris, I have been with namecheap for years, after a nasty incident with godaddy. Probably not the cheapest, but I'm familiar with the interface, never had any problems and I'm as happy as I could be about the security side of things...

Dreamhost - $4.99 for the first year, then transfer away to GoDaddy for the free years renewal, then over to NameSilo (although im looking for an alternative to NameSilo their prices are getting stupid.

If a domain ends up in the NameSilo account, it means it a keeper.

I have a bunch at namesilo and some at namecheap.

                                Personally, I like namesilo best.

                                  Dear Amelia,
Try to find an ICANN accredited registrar from your own state (so if anything happens, you can sort it immediately) but if you can't do that, then try to to use a registrar where that is incorporated where you have legal counsel.

That is the only important thing here, nothing else, really. No one can steal your domains as long as you use legitimate information, and even if someone manages to hack you, you will be able to get the domains back almost immediately if you use a registrar that can be contacted by your legal counsel. That's why you shoud always opt for a local option, and not necessarily for the cheapest option... either way, I suggest that you look up things like: "domain registrar from $state", etc.

Important note: never put all your eggs in the same basket... so, try to keep your most important domains in one account, protected by 2FA (on one phone number, or a hardware 2FA device like YubiKey), and the rest on another, protected by another phone number, etc... try to limit the damage as much as possible... so all of this means:
                                  - Different email accounts
                                  - Different phone numbers
                                  - Hardware 2FA devices

Separate your personal banking and your business banking as well. It may be annoying, but it can help in the long run.
Sorrow and solitude, these are the precious things, and the only words that are worth rememberin'
