I Lost a Good Model to the Jehovah's Witnesses

Religion really fucks up people's lives. I should know, I'm a Pastor's son. Today I learned that one of my very popular models, Karma, has become a Jehovah's Witness. I asked her to read this scripture:

Hosea 13:16 :
Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

This contradicts Exodus 20:13:
Thou shalt not Kill.

Why did God command unborn babies ripped from their mother's wombs? Could it be he really DIDN'T write the Bible?

I've asked religious leaders about this and they mumble something about contradictions being caused by translation errors. This makes me ask:

So, why would someone want to base their life on a book that's not properly translated?

I really don't care what the pope does, but it bothers me that ANYONE can believe God inspired the Bible after reading Hosea 13:16. Does it make ANY SENSE at all that a "loving" God would command babies ripped from their mother's wombs, and young children dashed to pieces???

Am I the only one that finds this a little odd?

4. Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn?t we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

Of course that's not the only reason for non-belief. But posting 10 pages on GFY would be useless. I have a lot of problems with the scriptures. I've debated my concerns with numerous clergymen. They all use the same answers, which can be broken down to "it's all about faith". What a cop out!

I believe in God, but not the Bible. And the God I see created a world governed by the laws of mathematics. Exact, and not faith based. God is a scientist. Faith and science do not mix.

When i first moved to San Diego i had 3 very attractive girls knock on my door one Sunday morning. Not knowing what they wanted i stupidly answered only to be flooded with verbiage on the Jehovah's Witness way of life. I had a friend who was raised as a Jehova's Witness. They totally fucked him up. When I met him he had recently been kicked out because he was having premarital sex, and his family wasn't allowed to speak to him.

About 2 years after that he tried to go back so that he could reconcile with his family. He was shunned. So he became a really bad smackhead and is now sitting in jail.

I blame it on the JW.

no, they are easily worse than 90% of the religions out there. probably the most cultish out of the more popular lesser religions. I don't know about over there, but here they're taken out of school at around 16. Any religion that requires (or as is the case, pressured STRONGLY, STRONGLY, FOR THE LOVE OF YOUR FAMILY) the rejection of knowledge and removal from highschool should be burned. That and shunning family members that leave the flock.
