when a major hosting company is having trouble, it amazes me how fast other hosts jump on in a dogpile. More amazing is the attitude some guys bring with them.

Ask yourself - if you were the customer of a host experiencing downtime, and were considering moving some sites, would you pick:
A) the hosting company who pours salt in the wounds (calling current customers of troubled company insulting names)
B)the hosting comapny who posts contain empathy (real/fake does it matter) and offers a fast transfer and friendly service

poking me with a stick is not a good way to get my attention

I think it's wrong if it's an isolated outage, like if Candid was down or Isprime or something, because outages are RARE with these guys. But this is not that case.

One of my father's contract workers is the father to one of the likewoah owners...

I know, I'm cool now. But none of this should be a surprise, aside from their designers, everything else wasn't so great, and it is a firm run by very young guys, so like other dot-bomb startups this one will probably join them soon. Sucks to see them go, send me your cheap russian designers!

Lens, I have no problem with your XFR crew posting about available servers - they seem to have some class

I just dont like reading that the host I have used for 2 years has always sucked, and only morons and paid lapdogs would support them - LW has been awesome for me, and I'm bummed about this recent trouble. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't picking up servers elsewhere - so pissing off a potential customer is just plain dumb.

I have used LW for years - I am not paid to have their back on the boards. I just happened to have a good relationship with them.

My sentiments exactly. If this was one of the hosting companies you speak of, or the one I use or anything, I'd be right here saying to hang with them, they have always been good and they will get it fixed. I don't get to make it to GFY like I would like or like I used to, but seems everytime I come here, there is some news pertaining to THIS company on here and outages so I find it harder to back or support something like this. So you said it perfectly here, Lens.. not that you need MY clarification or support on what you say, but I am saying I couldn't agree more with what you said here.

Jizzman, I have been with them since Vector shut down too and I must say that I was very impressed with how they dealt with those clients in all that mess, and that's exactly what it was, one HUGE mess. Being a Vector employee, I knew alot about the situation and helped all I could with this transition, and I was amazed at how well they treated those people who were, for lack of a better term, totally lost and confused as to what to do next. Shane handled all that with the style that is rare these days..... so hell yes, I stayed with them.. who wouldn't? :thumbsup

being young doesn't mean the company will go out of business. lots of old farts couldn't run a company if their life depended on it.

Eve 05-30-2003 03:24 PM

LikeWhoa is likealive again

All this speculation is pretty funny...it was probably just a fiber cut and their NOC staff is stuck on the phone all day and not near their ICQ box

Steve 05-30-2003 03:25 PM

my stuff is coming in now

Keev 05-30-2003 03:31 PM

let me guess they found prohosters dead cat in the rack causing all the problems with the outage... I heard that one before.

The Reason everyone else is jumping on Like whoa is because in the Past this is exactly what like whoa did to them. Like whoa isnt a saint. I think this is more along the lines of retribution.

The LikeWhoa deal looked tempting, but I kept my word and went with BlackSeven. Man Im I glad that I did! BlackSeven has been nothing but positive since day one.

No fancy internext booths, No free prizes... just great hosting!

I get paid NOTHING to throw in a good word for BlackSeven

ill second this, im with blackseven, not a complaint one.

This weekend should be interesting to see waht kind of shit arises...

Barry Porn 05-30-2003 10:30 PM

Why don't you worry about building your business up and getting more than five servers online, instead of worrying about LikeWhoa and their business?

We left Whoa for Webair months ago. Just a short drive away, and my rack is humming there. Good location, good service, good prices. And the most important thing to me is the respect you get as a customer. I like that my uptime is important to them.

Keev 05-31-2003 12:53 AM

Yea, the DC reliable servers is at is about the same distance...

I'm 100% moved but I've still lost a lot of money and time... I still have to reconfigure my servers, re-install scripts... I've lost a lot of emails -- on and on... anyway this is all good practice to finally get my fully redundant.
