    Porn sites up against French deadline for age checks
    Pornographic websites must be able to verify users' ages in France from Saturday, the result of a years-long battle between operators and authorities, with start-ups scenting an opportunity in the new arrangement.

          According to the XLove cams newsletter I got this morning, it's recommended to use this service : https://go.cam/en/ Aparently, it also meets the forthcoming UK age verification requirements.

          It costs 0.03 euros or dollars per verification.

          I think I've sent XLove Cams over 1K uniques without a single sale.

              You are supposed to setup a double blind method to check the id: a third party tells it's ok.

                                      France is looking for ways to make money and tries to use a "moral" coating to do it.
                                      The ability to control more things increases the ability to raise taxes better.
                                      Getting your ID helps to do that.
                                      Also they already control your id at least on a french auction website that i know (not ebay).
                                      I am sure you could just reuse the same service and claim "oh but it's not just for porn, your privacy is safe"...

                                      Anyway age checks will reduce the number of free loaders and increase the number of committed users.
                                      The impact for a business is hard to assess.

                                      Also besides sexual intercourses, the definition of porn in France is probably not the same as in Texas.

                                                                              I have a lead out with GO.cam to see how their system works, but according to their certifications, it's an AI module designed to "guess" the persons age. Persona has something similar but they also have an actual ID verification service.

                                                                              I think that explains why it's so cheap.

                                                                              The certifiers, KJM and GSI, do not appear to say whether any service actually meets the requirements of individual laws. How messy this whole process is. I don't want to go down a rabbit hole of integrating a service only to find out it's suddenly not enough of a verifier.

                                                                                                          Just an update on this. I found that it's an AI library that detects age via webcam locally in the browser. It doesn't appear to be consistent but did receive certifications via go.cam, not from the underlying library. That does mean you can self-host it. No idea on how effective this will be as age verification though. YMMV.

Yet these wont require age verification under the UK rules.

                                                                                                                                                  So teen boys will get their 'taboo' adrenalin rush in future not from porn sites but from gore sites. Watching two adults having sex will corrupt their sweet innocence and they will be protected from that, but watching guys getting beheaded is OK.
