stockmarket isn't about luck. It's about knowledge, research, ability to see the potential or not of a paper, inside info and so on.

I'm in the stock market and I hit real big in the late 90's when I made alot of money with my technology stocks.

Now is an awesome time to buy stocks. Buy low sell high!!!

Just another way to make money.

I'm good in math and statistics, but I dunno jack shit about how this whole thing works.

If I wanted to get into it, where should I start? (read any books? website tutorials? which online brokers to work with?)

I day trade everyday and if you do your research you can make some nice dollars. The thing about the stock market is you don't need to know about every stock, you just need to know and understand a handfull of stocks...

I break them down to categories like tech, financials, drugs, telecom, retail etc...

Open an Ameritrade account and fund it with about 100k or what you feel comfortable with....it is very realistic to earn 3-5 % daily on average. Don't get me wrong, you will lose at times but the idea is to have more winners than losers....

I started by playing on paper before I did actual transactions. Once I felt comfortable, I went for it and never looked back....

Warning: very addicting...lol

Have fun and good luck

A good place to start is with Dorsey Wright

If you open an ameritrade account, you can subscribe to Marketedge and a few others....

upon opening your account, you receive 30 days of free trading, after that it is 10.00/trade.....why give a broker up to 5%?

There are a lot of good deals in the stock market right now. I would buy airline stocks because they are way down.

Also Boeing just signed a deal with Emirates airlines for 30 planes. This is a good buy also.

The best thing to do is to invest in companies that make products you use and enjoy. For example if you invested in AOL back when they first started simply because you liked the internet, you would of made 73,000% return on your investment by late 1999.

A stock imo that could potentially offer similar returns is xmsr. It already bought my house and its just getting started.

it depends on your tax bracket, but if you hold stocks for less than a year, capital gains is about 28-35%. Hold stocks for over 5 years its more like 8-10% (I think)

Also if you have a massive loss, you are only able to write off that loss up to 5 or 6k per year.

puremeds thanks

massive loss = jumping from a building

I play the virtual oanda.com game with the foreign currencies. The game is exactly the same like when you use real money. It's interesting as well and addictive. Even if you buy now and sell in 3sec you might earn or lose some good % of your primary capital.

I played the stockmarket for 1 year

I invested a very small amount, just to test it out..

I made 8X my initial money, none of the companies I bought (total of 3) made me lose money...

so yes I got lucky,
although my father lost 30 000$

last fall was the time to buy. there are still some decent buys right now. especially when you consider dividend yield.

Unless you have access to inside information, the type they are prosecuting Martha Stewart about, consider the market like Las Vegas.

Expect to lose then when you win you can be very happy about it.

Yea man that shit is fun. I like the long trade days. They have a forum if you ever want to read up on some of the strategy or whatever but since I daytrade mostly I just look at the charts and jump in. There are certain currencies that you could have gotten in 2 years ago and rode all the way up until now.
