The network quoted a U.S. Army colonel in charge of inspecting key sites in Baghdad as saying no trace of a bunker or of bodies had been found at the site on the southern outskirts of the Iraqi capital, known as Dora Farms.

"When we came out here, the primary thing they were looking for was an underground facility, or bodies, forensics, and basically, what they saw was giant holes created. No underground facilities, no bodies," Col. Tim Madere said.

I even remember some TV network quoting some "unidentified government source" that the people living next to this palace saw Saddam being helped out of the debris after the attack and that an ambulance was there. But that it looked like one or BOTH of his sons had been killed in the attack, and Saddam was probably seriously injured (using the televised speech Saddam gave later after the attack).

All in all..intelligence in this situation was an oxymoron!

First the news yesterday from Rumsfeld - you know the one that was on Yahoo! US for about 5 minutes before the completely removed the story - the one where Rumsfeld said that Saddam more than likely destroyed the WMD days before the war started (translation - can find them so gotta cover our asses here). Then this story comes out. Maybe this Bush loving media (CBS, NBC, FOX NEWS, ABC, MSNBC, etc) is finally seeing the light and are going to start talking about the untruths of this war/conflict/takeover whatever you want to call it - you know focus on the fact that we still do not have Saddam or have found WMD which is the reason why the war started and according to Bush a few weeks ago must happen before he will end the war. Maybe this will be first of many things that come out of this so that Bush won't get voted in again for four more years - God won't that be heaven!

As I recall...the US received some last minute intel from whoever...and had to change plans, and targeting, in a short span of time and this is not an easy task (not like the movies). Our forces struck, or attempted to strike, a target provided by that intel. Is intel ever wrong...yes...more often than it is 100% right.

Have you ever tried to do an assessment of damage taken by the gun cameras of a jet aircraft? It is not an exact science...it is an art. The Secretary of Defense does not do any of this personally. Info is passed on to him...if at a later time the info proves to be incorrect...does that mean that he lied...no...does that mean that the people that provided him with the info lied...no...there are things that are called mistakes. People have seen far to many movies...but this is real life not some fucking movie. Mistakes are made...and sometimes...very serious mistakes...nothing new about this. Mistakes do not equate to lies except to those that have an agenda.

It is not new that both US and UK Intelligence Services clearly... that reads.. "C L E A R L Y" told both heads of governments that Iraq was not "poised to launch missles at any Westen country nor did they have WMD as claimed by some.

The absurdity of the "thing" and the US Admin having an "appraisal" of "intelligence quality" after the war raises still more serious doubts, both on the Admin competence and their "desires". I smell a "defence" creeping in - "it was not us, it was the intelligence services".

It's not at all unusual for there to be false, misleading, and even counterintelligence during war (during times of peace too, of course).

Consider the number of stories we have heard throughout the war. Food shortages due to broken supply lines, everything is "not going according to plan", an unexpected pause, unexpected resistance, "quagmire". There were just as many if not more stories that people easily believed which showed US weakness and vulnerability and yet within a few weeks of them being taken hook, line, and sinker by unsuspecting America-haters, US soldiers were in the streets of Baghdad, Saddam's statues were falling and the Iraqi "Elite" Republican Guard was decimated and destroyed.

Many doubted the US intelligence that pointed to the general unwillingness of Iraqi's to fight for a "dying regime" and yet the live pictures that we saw as US troops moved into Baghdad indicated that evaluation was much more correct than incorrect.

This is precisely WHY the term "fog of war" was invented and is popular. We will undoubtably learn of more errors in intelligence, double-crossings, effective Iraqi counterintelligence and information that was not released as it was obtained. There will also quite likely still be a future surprise that will no doubt shock many. Remember that a single bomb killed 243 marines in a Beirut barracks in 1983.

The war was notable for it's underestimation of US military strength and intelligence and not the opposite. Despite the
predictions of a bloodbath as a result of urban combat in Baghdad and tens of thousands of US soldiers killer, the plan went as according to plan as one could go.
