    What made you choose porn?

I tried making this thread before I was fully approved to post so I might as well try again.

I'm 26, I grew up with the stuff being there at the click of a button, there was something so strange about all those ads for pharmaceuticals, white labels, all kinds of shit I never knew had proper names.

Two things ultimately drew me to this side of the internet:

My Dad kept a bunch of King Magazines in the bathroom, most of it was softcore stuff, glamour models, video vixens, but the back pages had ads for porn. Everything looked so slapdash and the color palettes were really gaudy. To this day I'm still tryna find a video of "Tsunami, the model with a 44' inch ass"

A little later, I saw an ad for some BS pill called BetaMax on PH, the "mascot" was an angry, crudely drawn anthropomorphic dick with brown hair, it was so fucking weird I couldn't stop looking.

This is the closest modern equivalent to all those 40s-60s pulp magazines, I don't expect to make beaucoup money doing this, I really just wanna make some surreal, fucked up stuff and maybe get some beer money.

What made y'all choose this industry?

I was selling all kinds of products back in 2000. A guy who I was doing business with convinced me to promote his adult site. Once I saw how some people never seemed to cancel the monthly membership I put 100% of my resources into it.

I was born into it - I grew up in the UK when it was completely illegal. Even putting a vanilla boy / girl video tape in the post, resulted in a £30,000+ Fine, a couple of years inside, and enrollment on the 'Sex Offenders Register'...

Back then, a 3/4 bedroom house with garage and gardens was less than £30,000 - That alone was a HUGE penalty...

As such the money that was to be made from shooting and distributing porn, even on 8mmm cini film was ASTRONOMICAL!

How could I have ended up doing anything else?

Ahh... The good old days - I've said it before & I'll say it again - If porn became illegal again, I'd come out of retirement in a flash!

Well, I knew a guy named Brandon from Myrtle Beach SC back in 1999 or 2000..... He used to post here but died years ago.. I don't remember how. He would sell bootleg liquor from his apartment there. Had a still in his condo.

anyway, I was always playing with programming and hacking and graphics back than.. mainly on America online when it was still the main way to connect to the net.. back than no one was on the internet yet and most people who were didn't even know how to upload a photo to the net.

anyway, one day Brandon wanted me to design him a pay site tour. this was when tours were these tiny images that couldn't be very large because everyone was still using dial up.

So I made my first one for him.. and it came out lookin juicy.. then I kept making more....

I was drawing mermaids with nekkid tatas from an early age, along with finches in the garden

took the stage once at the strip club where I was a dj but I didn't even take off my clothes as too many people looking at me and the club deal was go up for one song. was paid well for that

I just danced to Public Enemy in a velvet top hat cuz I felt like it and I did make a lot in tips too. but like maybe 4 times more than a usual night just womanning the booth?

and no I was not fired, mgmt loved it

my bf (later husband) was all "they loved you!" yeah. cuz it was a one off

I relied on tips from patrons seeing me up in the booth (never took tips from dancers) to supplement wages and if I kept going on stage I suspected those would stop

I couldn't be up all night and travel miles and miles and miles to class so got a job local doing security where I could study and write papers on night shifts. and nap too cuz nutting going on

I entered uni and knew that income would not be enough. so I started camming. put me through three degrees with zero student debt and so much travel once I realized the strictures of academia were not for me

as a kid I always thought I'd end up in academia or a police officer. LOL

now I don't have to worry about money too much and tutor kids in my neighbourhood, I think that's a win

I needed to make money to move out of Canada. my partner's salary and security work couldn't have done that

got into camming, made a lot, spent a lot cuz life, bought a very non-adult offline biz and happy

still very much in adult/camming, just glad I don't need 'chance' anymore as that was what I never liked

without adult not sure how much of this could have happened

Same for me. 32 years ago I owned a marketing firm in Toronto - then sold it and was bored. I responded to an ad in the newspaper and found myself hired to Python. Right from the beginning my ideas and crazy inner child were coming up with slogans and ideas that revolutionized the company.

Prior in my 20s I was a minister and in seminary. What I couldn't shake was all the while I was doing that my mind was racing a mile a min with thoughts that were perfect for the porn industry. Eventually I realized that I was meant to be something else as these thoughts kept growing. When I eventually got to my 1st trade show I knew it was meant for me and have stayed since. Now after all these years I consider many my extended family and can't see myself doing any other job than what I'm doing now.

That's a really steep penalty, jfc man, I thought the Comstock Act was bad

What was a common work day like for you back in those days?

Respect dude, if only Mary Whitehouse could see the internet lol

It'd be mostly for networking, marketing training itself is well, free, especially here.

What made you choose marketing? I take it Python wasn't affiliated with the back end language, how much of your mainstream skills transferred to the job?

Catholic? What made you get into theology?

I grew up a holy roller, but I left that as a teenager, ofc. I was taught that anything but pentecostalism was satanic, or not real, which made it evil nonetheless. I always had this nagging urge to become a monk as a kid though, up until very recently, I've been going to Mass since last year, mostly to network. I just can't do it tbh

Funny enough, my former best friend is a TikTok pastor now, I went to his church a few times to support him and those wannabe Hillsong churches are full of horny mfs, jfc

I'm probably not the person to ask as the degrees I got are the kind that would make OHL throw himself off a bridge

I've never used any of them for any offline work directly but indirectly huge benefits. how to navigate systems/bureaucracy, gaining connections, learning how to work with people from all walks of life, deeper understanding of diff ways of interpreting societies. the biz I run offline is cuz I started teaching the kids down at the beach during covid when the schools were closed

their fathers brought them to the beach as they worked fishing and the kids were bored. I couldn't tutor if I wasn't educated myself, and gained knowledge just experiencing professors teach and learning from their styles of what worked and what did not. their fathers got to know me through being down there with their kids

when the owner of the biz died, I had just sold an adult site so I bought it using those proceeds with their full support

when I need a programmer I hire one

I guess my point is, whatever degree you get, in today's world you gotta be creative about using the skills you learn

you say you don't wanna do STEM but those are each very broad fields. what would you like to do and how can you realistically get the ROI from it? I would suggest looking into blended STEM programs more deeply. some actually involve elements of the humanities depending on what school you choose

and make enough money in adult so that you don't have to graduate with student loan debt

The logic was stretch, but here's how it worked - The mail was known as 'The ROYAL Mail' - And an 'uncertified' tape was classed as 'Obscene' - There was no way to get the tape certified (regardless of how tame it might be) because porn was still illegal. So, you have by default, commited a crime of a 'Sexual Nature' against none other than the Queen of England herself! Hence the ludicrous penalties...

Unless I was filming (Which was always fun) it was rather boring to be truthful. Just basically Duplication, Duplication & more Duplication... I've written on here before about it, but in a nutshell it worked like this - We had a bank of twenty VHS players, all recording from a master, through a signal booster. It was just a daily case of putting in blank tapes, labeling them up once done, then repeating the process...

We only had twenty going at a time, because every month or so, police would burst in, and destroy the video recorders - But funnily enough, never the signal booster - I guess they didn't know what that was. However we always had another replacement load of video recorders on standby, so we could just reset and start again instantly...

You may wonder why I wasn't arrested, but actully duplicating tapes itself, isn't illegal - Neither was filming porn myself. Had I been copying american tapes (Which I had not created myself) perhaps they could have got me for piracy? but i wasn't...

As long as I didnt sell those tapes, or put them in the post, there was very little they could get me for... So they just smashed up the recording equipment from time to time, to be seen to be doing 'something'...

Waaay back when sites had warning pages I was facinated by the "webmasters click here" link and seduced by the promise of fame and fortune with the suitcases filled with cash, expensive wine, and lambos At least you were in with a chance back then to get some of that... jokes aside in the early 2000s there were a LOT of really helpful boards and all you needed was basically one trick that you could scale to make some decent money.. and who doesn't like looking at porn all day long..

you should really write a book. I think you've had one of the most interesting careers of anyone in this biz and when you describe stuff it's always so entertaining

you could write it under a pseudonym in case the law is still after you for your crimes against the Queen. it was you who climbed in through her bedroom window, wasn't it? yeah, I see you. Fagan was just the fall guy

About a decade ago, I was a mainstream website developer who worked primarily on custom content management systems and WordPress sites, until I responded to an ad for a company who needed a developer.

When the webmaster told me that they were advertising for an adult company, I didn't really think twice about it. I didn't care for the stigma against adult, but I understood it would make it difficult to find more mainstream work in the future.

The adult industry has ended up providing me the most loyal, respectful clients I have ever had. It was a brilliant decision and I don't regret it at all.

I was taught that anything but pentecostalism was satanic, or not real, which made it evil nonetheless. I always had this nagging urge to become a monk as a kid though, up until very recently, I've been going to Mass since last year, mostly to network. I just can't do it tbh

I was popular but during that time curiousity led me to start a few websites on the side. When I sold the company I was just going through the city newspaper and saw an ad and responded. Thus started Python.

I grew up Baptist - was in seminary for 7 years and was 1/2 year away from Masters of Divinity. That was during my 20s. The sense that I was more than that made me leave and I began using my creative mind and started my company mentioned above that was successful.

It was such a long time ago but my heart kept pulling me and when I landed in adult I felt at home - though only a bit discomforted since my ethics were clashing with what was around me but I got over it. it was a fun job and a great family atmosphere that I still have today after 32 years
