for $20k you can create an empire if you spend it wisely.

I set myself up for less than half that, and could now do 10x more with that cash.

you say, give me the 20K, and I'll get you a paysite, and promo material and some traffic to get you going.

Hire a newbie designer at $800 for a tour, and members area.
Buy $5,000 in content from cheapest content provider.

Farm out some galleries, and banners.

Buy some cheap traffic.

Pocket the rest, and when he makes fewer sales than expected.. blame it on the Summer SlowDown.... Or whatever season it is.

I guess it depends.
I had 2 clients a few months ago... one had $5000 to spend... the other one $1800... the second one makes a lot more money now than the first one. I guess advertising is the key as they pratically had similar sites. Just my 2 cents

A newbie can start a paysite with $1000, so of course he can start one with $20,000... but no amount of money guarantees success.

I'd say give me 10,000 and we'll split the profits. But this "newbie" would have to agree not to get involved in any of the design or set-up.

If they aren't willing to work hard $20,000 or $2,000 wont make any difference.

I've seen many companies come and go.
I've also seen a company Called Hanco lose 5 mil in 6 months in this biz.

But if you work hard and learn the biz you can make money its all about trust and relationships you build with people.

anything is Possible good luck

It was tragic. They invested it all in short UIN numbers right before some Russian hackers put thousands of stolen UIN's on the market. Damn shame.

Yup, don't start with a paysite, its all about traffic, if they can get traffic, use the 20K and start affiliate program....otherwise invest less than 10K and be a webmaster with a head start.

Unless of course, the paysite is draw name site with icon celeb porn stars that interact with the members :-)

Few people really know what the real story is.

It was less than 5 mil and the reasons were not that complicated.

Many critical errors in the planning phases and just plain old fashioned bad management.

start with free sites and avs sites first. don't even think about a paysite until at least 90 days. if you're still motivated to keep going and things are going well, then start planning for a paysite.

$20,000 plus motivation plus a good idea really ought to equal a successful paysite. What I would advise would probably depend on how motivated I thought the person was and whether I thought they had a good idea for a paysite. With the right motivation and the right idea, you don't need $20k to launch, but, like the lady said . . . rich or poor, it's good to have money.

Why exactly do you guys all agree that an AVS site is "safer" than a paysite?

Are'nt they essentially the same thing?

An avs can cost 0 dollars. It can use less content. It rebills without you even having to try to appease members.

Paysites take work. AVS sites can too for some overachievers. But I think the real reason people should start with AVS is that the payout is the same as you would make on a new paysite. Sometimes the payout would be more... and all with less hassle and definitely less money.

A newb would learn what it takes to drive traffic (the most important part of the game), convert and appease members before making the paysite investment.
