Define a porn star these days?

With the advent of self content creation and publication.... How would you define a porn star these days? What is the threshold for a model to have to meet to be considered a "Star"?

Damn good question since some of us remember stars from past in relationship to what people consider now. I suppose it's a blend of users vs. memorable movie scenes.

Models today mostly are either webcam - TikTok or OF with even fewer having their own sites selling movies on places either direct or clips4sale etc.

Stars are those who's name are almost household or workplace names that people know and heard of. You mention Jenna for example - and everyone knew her name - they had celebrity status and often were found in mainstream TV or movies at times if not just using their name which were immediately attached to porn.

Landscape has changed though - use to be DVD's even VHS movies sold - magazine covers/centerfolds - now it's traffic and downloads.

I would think it would be the top OF models and the models you find on tubes. If a normie con find her easily through search...

But there is an argument that there are no more "porn stars" since the definition has changed. Maybe we should call them 'Porn Influencers' now.

The porn stars that I adore, and these are just a select few, are Riley Reid, Angela White, Sophie Dee, Brandi Love, Mia Malkova, Johnny Sins, and Vicky Vette.

But you have so many fucking amazing self-upraising stars, like The Flesh Mechanic, Sophia Locke and sooo many more. I could go on.

The times have changed, and models have control over who can be called a porn star.

Times have certainly changed and I don't think the traditional porn star exists either.

For me, it used to be the amateur - porn star threshold, they were either one or the other, no matter how popular a model was, once they were published by a recognised studio they could label themselves a "Porn Star".

I would go as far as saying that those models who control their own content these days wouldn't even consider themselves as making "porn", the word itself has lost its meaning.

Only reason I ask is that I am trying to find some way of classifying professional models from amateurs, as most what you would deem even the most amateurish of amateurs in terms of their content are now earning more than some stars would be paid for their studio works and are making a genuine living from it, therefore it's their profession.

Thanks.

Given the rise of ONLYFANS (aka paid adult/semi adult version of Instagram), the term "pornstar" no longer means what it used to

The argument of who is and who isn't a "professional" has been going on in all creative fields. For tax purposes the threshold was something like $600. Anything over that and you had to declare the earnings. Thus you were a 'professional'.

But now it seems better to classify time spent doing something versus amount paid. As in, if posting on OF is your full-time gig and not a side hustle then BAM you're a pro. In other words, is modeling/making adult content your main source of income? If so I would classify you as a pro regardless of your style, where you make it, where you sell it or with whom.

I'll drop my two penneth in, and say its changed in much the same way as the delivery method has changed from VHS / DVDs to online only...

Take my ex wife - Over 600 scenes for professional company's under her belt. But she would never have referred to herself as a 'Star'... But she was obviously a star to the sheer amount of company's that would shoot her again and again, over and over... But why?

Because she always turned up on time, was clean and sober and went the extra mile to make sure she gave a great scene... WHICH SOLD...

But she wouldn't have called herself a 'Star' - Just a 'Professional' - However we would often come across girls at conventions running about saying they had shot 10 scenes, so they were a 'Porn STAR'...

But like I said, the landscape has changed now - Girls shoot themselves and upload to only fans... So the metric is 'The Amount Of Money' they make... It isn't the amount of rebookings and scenes (& by default the money they paid her)

So as such, I'd argue that the traditional pornstar doesn't exist these days - In much the same way as VHS doesn't exist either... Anyway, who really cares?

Years of experience have told me that the louder the girl shouts that she is a 'Star' - I can guarantee you, that means the further away she is from being one...

Yes, but is that a line of people who know who she is, and want a souvenir for themselves, or a line of people who have seen a line, joined it with no clue who the girl is, in the hope they can re-sell on ebay later?

Some of the biggest porn stars of, for example, the 80's and 90's definitely did something else most of the time, if they could pay their bills. So I'd count popularity, name recognition, and financial success, but not require full time to count, as that would knock out many I feel are definitely stars.

Porn star = someone who "stars" in a pornographic production.

A content creator = someone who creates content.

Adult content creator = someone who creates adult content.

Best answer yet!

I think being a "porn star" is just going to be like an extreme sport. You're using your body and taking risks to produce content that thrills people.

Things like OnlyFans have re-defined what a pornstar is. A woman who works at home and in hotels she rents, may not even fuck anyone on camera, but if she makes 1+ million a year from showing her tits and ass, is she a pornstar? She's a something-star. The technology is pushing language to create new words, fr fr no cap.

a creator or influencer could have more followers than this model & a porn star is what they do, not who they are...

fucking, essential, anal play & ass spreading a must, blowjobs, cumshots, and in the business as a serious adult entertainer...

loving porn & being a star...

thus a pornstar

I define it the way I always have...Can a girl walk into a crowded public place and have a fair percentage of the general public recognize her?
And can that same girl turn the head of every person even if they don't?

Seems like a lot of the current flavor of the month girls are very generic. If one of them walked into a nightclub...I don't think anyone would have a clue that they are supposed to be famous...unless someone told them so.
