    fucked up browser

I normally use netscape to surf, but the other day, i used ie and came across a site that autobookmarked sites in my favorites and worse it disabled the tools for internet options... "this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions if effect on your computer. please contact yours system administator."

anyone know how to fix this, I have a lot of pissed off surfers and would like to be able to show them how to fix it.

      JJJ,

don't know how to fix it, but i know how it's caused. illegal registry writes. i have no idea what they are allowed.

install Norton Internet Security (NIS) (i have family edition 2001, not sure what other editions there are..) and it'll detect such bullshit scripts and warn you when they try to do a registry write.

it'll also suggest to you that the script is potentially dangerous (as you've proved they can be) and suggests shutting down the script (which shuts down all your IE browsers).

Yep, it is the same. Go to that post. Your regedit file was altered.

          JJJ,

You heard of a program called WinLock? It restricts access to certain features (e.g, it can remove the find feature from the start menu) on the computer. It can also resrict access to certain folders, such as those containing bank details... click on a resricted folder, and WinLock will give the exact same warning message. WinLock isn't very secure though...

I believe that there is a patch for these auto-bookmarking registry editing fuckz at the Microsoft site, sorry I don't have the Url... but I do have the patch.
