It holds true for different segments of the industry as well.

I can't understand why more newbies don't build paysites or premium AVS and promote them via paid TGP listings or other purchased traffic.

Alot of people would say that strategy is suicidal, and not just for newbies, but I've been doing it since day one.

My first year in the biz I broke 6 figures while working 2 - 3 hours a day on pushing traffic to one pathetic regular AVS site that I'd built mostly as a means to help me learn Fireworks.

And believe me, I'm no tour building or marketing genius.

The site is still up, still in its original form, and it still makes 30k even though I haven't really worked at promoting it in over a year.

The key is really simple.....there are not too many people that
understand that it takes money to make money. They want a
freehost, free content, free scripts, free designs, free traffic and
use that to haunt for millions of dollars.

Allthough it's quite possible to make some cash with nothing but
even then people don't reinvest some of that hard earned cash.
They rather use it to get a loan on a rice racer or knockoff watch
and show friends what a pimp they are.

Oh well I hope people just keep doing that......makes it easier
for the other few.

What I think is funny is all the talk about how bad things have gotten since '96.

Even if you were starting out today, this has got to be the only legal business where with some acumen, work ethic, and a few thousand dollars in startup cash, you can realistically expect to make enough money to retire in less than a decade.. alot less than a decade.

Theres no way someone could work that much and make so little or nothing.

I think when they say "work" they mean they sit on the computer, get started with work, then fuck around on the messageboards and icq and before they know it it's time for bed. If you took the amount of work they did and the work they actually PRODUCED it'd probably be a small amount.

heh, well... i haven't made dick. and its because of one thing, motivation. when it comes to doing something i'm unsure of, and i have doubts about (basically everything cause i've never actually done it before) then i'll fuck around with it, notice it'll take hard work for quite awhile and say fuck it.

but, i have an excuse for that cause i'm primarily a designer and i'm usually always workin on something. and i have no money i can use to actually start up my own shit (yet).

however.. i still believe there are those out there who have a natural ability when it comes to shit like makin money on the net. i know i have that ability, but i extinguished most of it on learning to become a successful mainstream / flash designer. but, soon enough i'll start up my own shit.

for those out there who whine because its "hard" or whatever, just lack skill, and determination.
