Terra is not closed. They just have some major problems with their main server and they were down for some hours. They were up or down depending on the country or server you are. Don´t think terra is going to close, they are a HUGE company........but rumours about closing adult sites are allways on the air........maybe this time is true :-)

But they like to be a bannerless freehost because they make page views and lots of free "members". With more uniques and page views, they do get a higher NASDAQ value. Sounds weird, but it's true.

Here in Brazil is the same. We have a bannerless freehost just for people from our country. They also have free mail and stuff.
More members = more traffic and advertisers.

Sucks. And advertisers and agencies never look to us that have 50k+ uniques per day and for 1/4 to 1/10 CPM cost. Bah.

The ones that really gets fucked in the ass are the honnest guys, always.

The webmasters that submit galleries and pay for their bandwith are in direct competition with the Terra leeches. They have the same ammount of banners but they have the all charges that come with their operational cost.

The free host are hurt too. While it's true, they put headers, footers and put a restriction on the file size, when they negociate the bandwith prices, they negociate with the collective buying power of the webmasters who uses the service. So the more moves to Terra, in the long run, it will start to hurt the hosts in the bandwith usage and in the price they pay for it..
