We actually got 3 estimates, the house is on build on solid rock (basically) up in the mountains..
The wood is no longer pressure treated due to some new regulation and jumped from the original $ 2800 dollar in material to 4k
We got the estimate last year but this year has new regs. You can't build with pressure treated wood anymore (in our area) because of the enviroment.

The beams have electrical wiring for interior lights in them.
Where you see the steps now we hope to have a jacuzzi next year so we already put the electrical stuff in it.

Maybe in the future we will enclose it, dunno yet..

Edit, it might look small but it was 510 square feet

That's a fact. I used to be a builder in another life. It depends on where it is though too somewhat.

The area we live in the house you see (3000 square feet, 1 acre land) is over 350k.

Maryland, close to DC is not cheap when you want something with land ;-(

is it really that costly to build a deck??

I was considering doing one here, but i wanted to do it myself and i couldnt imagine the wood being that expensive.

That's why it took them awhile... and labour being the most expensive part is why it was $6800.

Cheers,
Matt
