Are there any good articles or resources?

I usually just run down to Fry's (if your in California) buy a bunch of shit and throw it together. Ist few were a mess, after 100 or so they turn out dam good now. If you don't know what a bunch of shit is, just take the covers off the Puter your using now and look, you'll see a bunch of shit.

I guess the most important thing is , on all the ribbon drive cables, the little red stip always goes toward the power source, if you just look for awhile it really is idiot proof. You can't break it until you try. The mother board has numbers on it, for hard drive number one is were the the little red stip goes.

If you are that much a dumbass then I wouldn't suggest
you build your own. Pay someone else $50-100 to build it for you so its not fucked up.

if you do decide to build it yourself though alot of them will come with a manual. and remember to keep alot of liquid fabirc softener around to spray on the carpet, and keep yourself grounded to avoid shocking any of you parts with static electricity. and for god's sake don't force andything! my one friend who was not patient enough to wait for me to get to his house broke two of the clips off his processor.

You might want to source your parts from www.pricewatch.com or something like that....

BUT... the problem is you'll wind up wanting to order from 10 different vendors = more shipping charges...

So you can cut to the chase and just buy 90% of your stuff from www.newegg.com - they had very good prices on everything as of 6 months ago anyway, but they were increasing in popularity pretty quick.. they might have raised them a bit.

Check them out though, I always use them to build boxes.

Don't buy shit from Fry's. They put ALL of their bad parts back on the shelf for other poor bastards to buy. If you do have to buy stuff from them make sure that it is sealed up and hasn't been opened.

I got three bad motherboards and two bad processors from them last week.

I'm outside of the USA. Actually my knowledge isn't that bad... just general stuff that I've picked up during my years of webmastering.

I've been able to take the insides of my desktops apart, clean/dust them off, and put it all back together again. But I couldn't write an essay on the differences between SIMM/DIMM, SDRAM/DDR RAM, parity/non-parity, etc. That's the problem... I think.

Just buy the parts and assemble it. I build my first PC ten years ago, called to the friend of mine when nothing happened when I pressed porwer switch on. Fun... I have build maybe 1000 - 1500 PC's 1997-2000 and sold em all. Fucking PC´s but I got about $800 profit per unit back to 97. Not bad at all... I sold them to scandinavia.

I use to make good money building them back in the early 80's, the last 6 or 7 years not worth it unless it's for me, people can go buy one for $600.00 to $800.00 now.
