I've built a dozen home PCs and several dozen servers 20-25 years ago...
Nowadays I'm overwhelmed by choice and options, and the idea of choosing 20 components to add to cart and arrive at home in a huge pile so I can spend the afternoon assembling it gives me anxiety.
"Hundreds" is literally nothing. I want this shit to show up at my door and work when I turn it on. I choose the base specs I want, get the amex points, deduct the depreciation. Too old to get into the weeds every time I want a new PC.Comment

That particular Corsair system seems to be selling a lot of last generation parts at a huge premium.
Assembling a PC is much easier than it used to be. MSI Mobo, DDR5 RAM, 4000 Series GPU and you can get one of those WD Black 2TB M2 SSD for about $100. When I bought the board and CPU the shop mounted the chip and updated the BIOS for me. No worry about bending socket pins.

my friend ordered one from amazon a200, has ryzen 16 core, 32gb, 3080 gpu.
nothing but problems.
the ordered unit the gpu failed after 1 month
got an RMA replacement unit that came and was slow, the fans were fucked up on the unit, ended up sending that back for a 3rd RMA which came this week.
Set it up for him, couldnt connect to wifi wouldnt let you pick a network, managed to hardwire plug into router and set it up.
Windows wasnt activated so i had to use one my own oem keys.
The system top fan is super loud even when jusrt idle, i thought it maybe icue, but when uninstalled the fan was still loud, so it had nothing to do with icue.
You cant even sleep in the same room asa the machnine because of it being so loud.
It works aside fromt the super loud top fan, he really doesnt want to send back for a 4th unit.
I suggested maybe taking the ryzen cpu out, memory, gpu, and ssd and build his own system with those parts.Since 1999: 69 Adult Industry awards for Best Hosting Company and professional excellence.

There was a time when all of us in the industry used to build our own computers. I used to love building my own PC - spending months planning out what I wanted to do, watching sales in newspapers for computer parts, hours spent at Fry's Electronics researching prices. The best was buying memory. I remember buying memory from a store that all they sold was memory - a little tiny store, no sign, just a bunch of display cases with memory, cash only.
Eventually you learn it's much easier to buy something off the shelf. Last time I bought a PC it was from Alienware, max it out, done. It's eight years old. When something breaks you fix it or replace it. In fact, I think my replacement liquid cooling system is from Cosair. I upgrade the video card every so often....Herschel Savage

There's a heap of individuals/small businesses that do custom builds. While more expensive than doing it yourself, they're still way cheaper than prepackaged systems and you get to choose what you want in it.Comment
