My girlfriend needs her own computer.

She only gets to use mine when when I am not on it - and that's not very often. Pretty much, the few hours she is up before I wake up.

Where would you guys recommend I try looking for good deal on a computer for her?

Cheap + Good is not normially the same in computers. Typically the more you pay, the better the product. With new componants there is a 5-15% markup at most, so you basically need to find the parts you want, and get a company to make it. Best way to do it.

im not asure if u guys have computer fairs like here in aussieland but if ya can build ya own pc they r the best save about half from the store

It is not worth buying a clone or used equipment when you can buy new for the same price.

Use pricewatch.com to find parts price.

You can get a AMD 2000-2400 for pretty cheap right now.

Buying a P4 isn't a good idea right now due to the new release of the 800mhz bus so prices aren't stable.

Try Apple's special deals (refurb, etc.) here. Or just get an eMac for like $800 or an iBook for a grand.
