Seems it's because they've also been blocking/rate-limiting lots of ISPs/networks in the past two weeks due to thousands of people, and huge projects like the Internet Archive, scraping petabytes of images before they're deleted.

                                          Dunno why they're archiving it like it's the Dead Sea Scrolls and not just mostly dumb memes posted elsewhere (AIUI non-porn anon images are also being removed), when it won't solve the real problem: millions if not billions of broken images/forum threads and 80% of reddit.
