Wow, 1999? That's impressive, and you've definitely earned my respect! It's amazing to see how long some people have been in the industry and the experiences they've had along the way.
As for me, I got into the adult biz back in 2007, but it took me quite a few years to eventually start theporndude.com. It's been a wild ride, and I'm grateful for all the lessons I've learned along the way.
It's always inspiring to hear the stories of others in the industry who have paved the way. Cheers to many more years in the biz!

My Dad shot & sold 8mm stag loops on cini film. People were always knocking the door at all hours, and furtively stuffing money into dads hands.
He made so much money from it, he had to find a way to explain it, so he opened a laundrette / laundromat which was a cash buisness to cover the influx in money.
Video came along and I earnt pocket money putting 12 blank tapes into machines and then hitting record on them and play on the master - No monitor was involved, so I never saw the tapes, but I knew what was going on...
By the time I was 16 (Legal Age in the UK) I was well aware of the score and was helping out with the sales etc, but just after my 18th birthday, I decided to go it alone and began shooting my own movies, on VHS, and duplicating on Dads equipment.
I made sales via newspaper adverts and a mailing list. Monety was good - I bought my own house & equipment. A few years later, internet arrived, and I was advertising my VHS tapes online.
Then the penny dropped... And I was off to the races!
Moved to the USA in late 99 early 2000 with my then wife (an award winning pornstar) and we were laughing - Retired fully from shooting in 2013 set for life!
Then i decided to spend all my money on food, and i spent the lot which is why i am a fat fuck what cunt a4d nuffin...
I actually learned how to sell porn by finding GFY, so my join date is basically when I started registering some domains and building some affiliate sites.
1989 or 1990ish were my first freelance writer sales to publishers like LFP.
I went on to do freelance editing, writing, and photography for Hustler, Playboy, Penthouse, AVN, Magna, Crescent, all the big adult publishing house.
I founded Blue Blood Magazine, the print publication of counterculture erotica in 1992. Blue Blood inspired all the early goth sites and, after coming across a membership site which was largely just pages scanned from my magazine, I decided to toss up GothicSluts.com with some of my own work which had not found a magazine fit yet. Having one of the earliest banner exchange systems and publication sites online already, it had targeted traffic from the start.
I didn't even bother to finish filling out the payment paperwork for a while. When I got that first online adult check, I was stunned.
Eventually found that a revshare affiliate program was a big plus and SpookyCash.com became a lot of what I did for years.
As a GFY Hall of Famer and AltStar Hall of Famer, I think one is supposed to retire once those are the awards, but I can't imagine anything less fun for me than being retired. Come somewhat full circle to magazines in recent years.
If anyone reading this knows anyone looking to sell cool magazine titles (adult or non-adult) or a Vegas-based print shop, I'm interested in acquisitions. Sheesh, I'm barely awake and I could have just written 1989. ❤️ GFY.
