SSD drives are starting to seem a decent price

I thought SSD drives would be much cheaper than spinning drives as I presumed only a few parts.

But they seem to have stayed a lot more expensive.

But in the last few months I have noticed the cost has come down or at least seems to have.

Just ordered two PNY 120GB SSD as they are on Amazon at just over £9 each.

Not huge but enough for me to use to edit films and use to store files when out.

It will be interesting to see if it makes a big difference to copy files from an ipad to one. I suspect I will still need to provide the ssd drive with power as ipad's do not give out enough power to power such as external hardrive.

I get external hardrives (1T size) to simply back up data, so speed is not important, just reliability.

I just wish apple would make a ssd drive with AirDrop would be wonderful.

I wish I could airdrop files to a pc too.

Haven't had a spinning drive for years.

Prices where high during corona, everyone bought electronics.

        everything is fake

I just steal these western digital elements 4TB drives when needed. As soon as I open one to start using it, I steal another and put it in my drawer. This is a new one what aint been opened yet - They are spinny - I fink - but seem OK 2 me..

Easy 2 nick coz Currys have them out on a rack without them being locked away behind glass...

Unlike the iPads which are locked away, and therefore hard 2 steal...

I just use these to back up files.

So far no crashes or disasters.

You can get cheaper drives but my thought is these may be more reliable for long term storage.

That's not SSD though - Its mechanical.
You could get a 4TB WD Elements (refurbished) direct from Western Digital for less money though...

Thats what I was saying, I get these for backup.

But I ordered the ssd to edit film and to copy files from an ipdad.

I just use normal drives for backup.

Going back a few years I used to first back stuff to zip disks (100mb), then dvd disks, then 80gb then 200gb big hard drives (as in size not storage) , and now these external drives.

I was watching a vid about someone using a Blackmagic video camera and he was finding each min the files were HUGE. If you were to use one for porn and shot regularly, your storage will be expensive.

I may order the 1t models for saving youtube vids i make to.

I am not bothered if the drives fail, as if I lost the footage I am not bothered.

But it may be handy to have the footage.

Be wary on Amazon of cheap SSD. Many of them are just SD cards spoofed to show larger drive space then they are. They will save your data and just overwrite it once the 64 gigs are full.

I love SSD drives. I have one that is over 10 years old and it still works perfectly.

If you buy a new PC, ONLY Buy one with an SSD drive as your primary drive. There is no comparison when it comes to speed - they are lightning fast, completely silent, and you never even have to worry about Defragging it...

You could still add an HDD for long-term backup if you want to as they are dirt-cheap now.
