Earthquake Turkey / Syria

More than 2.600 were killed and thousands injured on Monday when an earthquake struck south-eastern Turkey and northern Syria.

The magnitude 7.8 earthquake was the worst to hit Turkey this century. It was also felt in Cyprus and Lebanon.

Hope they can rescue more people.

Given that supposedly 3000 buildings collapsed, and it hit at 4am, I suspect the death count will be 10x what it is now if not more.

i agree, been watching this for past few hours and numbers dead, have already gone up in the past hour or so...

During the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake I was about sixty miles away and holy shit... I on the USGS email list and I get an email any time there is a earthquake more than a 6.0. A 7.6 earthquake is massive.

Tik Tok is flooded with videos of buildings in Turkey falling. Thousands of buildings have fallen. Tens of thousands of people are suddenly homeless in the middle of winter.

This is horrible.

There was a video a few days ago predicting it cause of the moon and other planets.
but wher and when exactly is always a mysterie.

I was in Mexico when 7.1 hit. In 1 second you are suddenly in a war zone.
Looks like this one went even much worse.

i have a close friend in Antakiya. he said his family is safe but they lost everything. he owns a salon in the city and its leveled too. no insurance of course. not good.

they might have to peel off some of that Ukraine war money and toss it at Turkey.

Newer buildings are built with earthquakes in mind. More flexible materials. Apparently alot of the buildings that collapsed were quite old.

Magnitude 7.8 earthquake, but then less than 12 hours later, a second 7.6 magnitude tremor struck the same region, there also been more than 100 after shocks.

Most buildings survived the first quake, it was the second quake that knocked them down.

i'm not sure they would take down a coastal tourist city even if this tin foil hat shit was real. an attack would be on a strategically important city or base, not risking foreign tourists.
