check sales rule
i can count on at least 20% of my revenue every day getting taken away ofr check fraud...if i make 2k in a day then 200 will get taken away from that without fail for fraudelent checks...
Is it that hard for the big billers to initiate a verification system? It's bullshit anyone from ccbill around? Are you guys going to get something for this..companies offer it but then you have to go with some smaller company and affiliates would be pissed switching over and junk...something has to be done. |

Uhh... $200 from $2k is 10%, not 20%.

We stopped taking checks except with Globill who have a delay before letting members access the site. Epoch and Ibill and maybe even CCBIll have no way to verify checks instantly. So you will get a large amount of fraud, we used to get 40%+ and its no joke seeing all that $$$ get taken away. But more importantly why give those thieving bastards a chance to download all your content in the 7 days it takes for a check to bounce ?
I would rather lose a few clients than take the chance. Since we stopped about 4 weeks ago our sales have actually gone up not down ? Cindy xx |

I don't understand why would you take check sales down?
even if there were 80% being returned... it's 20% that you get to make a profit on... from experience, we get 10% roughly that are checks, compared to Credit Card Sales.. Bandwidth TOTAL is anywhere between 10-20% of our total gross Revenue.... so, just with the checks alone, it pays at least 50% of our bandwidth, with less than 10% of the Site's total bandwidth usage.. dunno, could be just me, but I wouldn't cut any $$$ coming in because a few users get free access...

It's all the banks fault -- they're the ones that set up these wacky rules that make checks a crappy form of payment for real time transactions.
The system was designed around always taking a physical check that printing was mainly controled by banks as security. Banks don't adapt very quickly either 'cause its not like people are going to just stop using them. Plus there's alot of inter-bank network & processes that you can't really change because all banks have to follow the same standards. Oh, well. We do what we have to to get that signup price any way we can =) It may be a hassle, but it's probably better than not getting that percentage of successful sales. |

Angels,
Check verification is not nearly as simple as credit card verification, there is no ?central network? where you can get an instant approval or denial. Keep in mind that online services that offer a check verification system also normally require more information. In addition to: Name Address Email address Bank account # Bank routing # They might also require: Check # Drivers license # Telephone number Name on the bank account Last 4 digits of Social Security # Birthdate which might affect the throughput, as I can imagine that some surfers might want to keep Social Security, drivers license and birthdate information private. In the current climate of identity theft, CCBill does not feel that consumers are comfortable providing this data. That said, I want to be clear that we do not charge our fee on any transactions that have been returned or refunded. Any check transactions that are returned, we absorb 100% of those fees. Many webmasters find that offering online checks is a good supplement to their credit card revenue. One option, you can always offer an online check option only on a credit card decline.

Thats not so, my mother went to a store. She wrote a check they took the check ran it thru a machine and handed it back to her. They automatically took the money out. Also there is telecheck they dont do adult but if they can guarantee a check for 3 % why cant the third party billing companies guarantee it for 15% ?

checks suck... we were seeing sometimes as high as a 70% return/fraud on checks when we finally gave up on them years ago. not worth the burned bandwidth in my opinion, most people have debit cards anyway if they have a checking account..
