    the things you find on reddit

    40 years old with 20+ years of web development experience. Never had a full time job. Am I unemployable?

    Okay, so I've been a web developer for over 20 years now and I've never had a full-time job ever in my life. I've had a few part-time jobs for a total of 9 months, all of which were non-coding jobs. A few weeks ago, for the first time in my life, I created a resume and applied for full-time programming jobs for remote WordPress and Laravel programming positions, all of which have $80-$150k salary. I applied to about a dozen jobs on LinkedIn and Indeed. Unfortunately, so far I have not heard back from anyone. The only messages I received were to join a different job search platform.

    My best guess is that employers are weary that I am going work for a few months, save about $20k and quit, as that's honestly what my plan is. My entire career I have operated my own websites and did small gigs to supplement my income. I spent the past 3 years developing a new marketplace for digital products called xxxxxxxxxx and it only makes about $100 per month so far, which isn't enough to live on even though I relocated to Mexico as a digital nomad and my savings are running out. So obviously, I don't have much to put on a resume except xxxxxxxx and my WordPress plugin xxxxxxxxxxx which is adult-related.

    I'm just wondering if I should apply to more jobs with some changes to my resume. I have my photo on my resume and I'm wondering if I should remove it or use a different photo. I know this may sound weird, but is it possible I'm too handsome for people to take me seriously as a programmer? Surely there are good programmers with single-digit body fat, right? Is it possible many companies have diversity quotas and won't hire a white man? Should I use a black guy in the photo? My last name is common amongst African-Americans so I could probably pull it off, right? I mean, it's all remote positions I'm applying for, so it's not like they can tell I'm only 1.4% Sub-Saharan African (according to my 23andme DNA test). How many jobs does the average programmer apply to before getting hired, or at least a call/message back? Thanks in advance.

                                  To the op reddit poster, I would say yes they should present themselves as being black but I would take it a step further to insure you get the job.

                                  Just being a black male doesn't rank high on the intersectionality victim scale. I would say you’re a black trans woman that’s disabled and of the islamic faith. That should do it. Most today will go out of their way to discriminate against you if you’re a straight white male so do whatever you need to do.

                                                                                                                                      I'm getting a 500 over here as well. what host did you switch to? you were with namecheap before, am I correct on that? if so, yeah, they only allow adult on their VPS packages, I think

                                                                                                                                      but who did you switch to and when did you make the switch? it really shouldn't take more than a couple of hours although it 'can' take up to 72. that would be signal number one you're with a shitty company

                                                                                                                                      if this doesn't work out check out M3Server.com (no ref link). I'm with Vacares now but used to work with M3 and had zero complaints, an excellent company. not sure if this would accommodate your needs but their smallest (the XS) VPS plan is $15 per month. Vacares and MojoHost are two other top rec'ed companies for adult, for good reason. a little bit more pricey but if your site is the foundation of your income def worth investing

                                                                                                                                      there are a lot of companies that say they host adult but it can vary...what might get in your way a bit is the hypn0 aspect, depending where the company is located

                                                                                                                                      anyway, hope your site gets back online soon and that you encounter no issues going forward. good luck!

I was blown away. Two weeks later I saw Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground with Niko. Heroin. What a time to be alive. Watch this. I saw this live ripped out of my mind.
