help... BIG cuteFTP promblem...

Hi, I hope you can help!! this is driving me Crazy.

when I edit a page (.txt doc) in cuteFTP, it automaticly takes all the html code and 're-organizes' it...

like instead of it all neat and spaced out and READABLE... it puts as much as possible on 1 line ... causeing my entire page to take up only 6 or 8 full lines of code...

anyone now how to fix this problem???

if the page still loads properly then it's doing you a favour

The real reason is windows added cariage returns in text file, so depending on which type of reader you have (reads with it or not) you get your text formated properly or not. Thats difference with unix text files and windows text files.

I use notepad to view all the code... is is a problem with notepad, or cuteFTP?

yes, Kat, it is a favour some times, but if (for whatever reason) the code isn';t right, it's a huge pain in the arse trying to find the problem, as opposed to when it's all nice and spaced out.

Quick answer because I gotta run...

Windows and Unix use two different types of linefeeds (sometimes). When you transfer a file in ASCII mode, it will insert them. Try making your file in notepad, and then uploading via binary mode and then downloading via binary mode and see if it's what you want. It will be.

Try to setup cuteftp with WordPad, I don't know if its possible

use ws_ftp after you solve your problem
i think its the simplest, easiest and the most professional one out there...
