    Greetings from struggling creative types

    Hello GFY friends!

This site has always fascinated me - I've been lurking on-and-off for more than fifteen years. Thank you all so much for participating and contributing here. This really is a unique and valuable space. Also, it's really commendable that y'all are still on an old-school forum format; everything else is kind of bullshit imo.

I finally have a reason to post - a plea for advice.

My partner and I are both artists who have an interest in creating pornography. We're on our second attempt at creating unique content - something completely novel. Both times our thought was that the novelty would give us an edge over the competition, but so far the return has been lackluster.

It's a common pattern that artist types often innovate, but fail to capitalize. It feels like we're embodying that cliche every day. With both ventures, the feedback was always amazing, some people just "got it" and were completely mind-blown. This doesn't seem to translate into sales, though.

Are there any members on this board that have experienced the same issue? It doesn't seem like it would be that rare of a problem; between models, photographers, designers, producers and so on, how have you overcome this? How did you break out of what feels like a non-stop development phase? Are there any big-picture revelations that illustrated where you were going wrong?

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!

Are you hinting at the fact that you wish to create & sell vomit content, or was your choice of username a serendipitous accident?

      A bit of both:

The first venture was under a different brand entirely.

The second venture does involve kink, including vomiting.

There's a difference between what artists have to offer and what someone will pay for.

Who will pay for it, is just as important.

Despite a lot of compliments, encouragement, and a name for myself in the BDSM scene, I could not get my artwork to sell. People would actually come up to me and say "I love your work. I wish I could afford it."

The first thing I had wrong was, I was selling art in the wrong place. Because my artwork was fetish, I was trying to sell originals at BDSM events. That's not where originals are going to sell for big bucks. If you want to sell original art for original art prices, you sell at a gallery, because galleries have lists of people with big money who want to spend big money on art.

In the art world prices vary based on media. Paintings sell for more. Watercolors, inks and sketches sell for less. Digital prints vary wildly.

Online, my artwork was hit or miss. In 1995, only a handful of artists would do fetish artwork out in the open. I had a series of calendars that would sell through the internet, often sight unseen. Now there's a lot more competition online. My work sells much better in person, often as stickers and greeting cards. They're impulse buys.

As for selling adult content online, Looking to existing content erotica sites like Slipshine and Filthy Figments. They already have the traffic and play well with others. You may have to switch to a comic format or create narrative art, but this is what keeps their fans going.

One last bit of advice. Keep in mind there's a difference between what you love and what you sell. Great when those two things cross over, but if you don't have to rely on what will sell, you'll be more comfortable. It's been easier for me now that I don't have to "hustle," to keep the lights on.

Some time ago on another forum somebody asked about "unique" turn on..... " hairy armpits". Albeit this was and ( is) busy forum, and in-spite many " bumps" the replies and other posts were "0"...That was, nobody was turned on by hairy armpits, just like a "vomitorium". This is not innovative or artistic but plainly stupid.

We're not making a vomitorium, but I get the jist of what you're saying.

Vomit content is fun, like 2 girls 1 cup.

I'd check out the Brazilian studios producing scat and vomit content, find out their names, find where their content is featured. You might stumble on some odd corner of the web where people are into it.

Can't help more than that, quickly tried to find the name of one of the studios and now I'm ready to vomit myself lol
