Content Anyone with DIABETES here looking to write some content (JV)?

Hi guys, I recently started diabetes website https://diahub.org , we need someone who can JV with us by writing content alongside other writers.

Since almost 10% of population has diabetes, I thought someone here would be interested.

Our ULTIMATE GOAL (sounds insane) is to help 1 million diabetics to make their life with disease easier.

You can reach me over skype: ipoli263

    Cheers.

In truth, I don't really know, and I don't really care. I take 4 X 500G Slow release metformin a day and just get on with my life. I'm not gonna change what I eat or drink or my lifestyle, so I just take the pills and get 'Told Off' once a year by my Doctors when I have my annual diabetic review.

It is what it is. I really don't give it a second thought.

That's not me giving you a 'flippant' reply - I'm just being completely honest. After all, this is what I was drinking yesterday...

                                  Serious answer?

I eat what ever I want, whenever I want. However, with that being said, what I choose to eat, and how much of it I eat, isn't actually that unhealthy. That milkshake was on my birthday, out with family. So, yes, a special occasion.

In otherwords, if on a normal day, I felt liking eating 10 cheeseburgers from McDonalds and drinking 2 of those milkshakes, then Id probably do it - Reality is though, I dont really feel like doing that...

Its just a case of I basically just do whatever the fuck I want, but what I want to do, isn't really all that bad for me - Just not necessarily 100% good for me either.

Just the one - You should have seen the 'work of cholesterol art' they put on a plate for me, but I forgot to take a pic of that, as everyone's food arrived together and fights ensued for the vinegar, salt shaker and sauces...

You also have to ask yourself, when is 'trying' to be healthy, actually a detriment to your standard of living?

Let's say you get diagnosed and really take it seriously. You give up drinking completely, and you stop smoking too. Cut down on salt and any sugars, and always choose the healthy option when you are out for a meal. At home, you start taking vitamins in the morning and at night along with your diabetic pills, and you add healthy things into your diet that you wouldn't normally have had, like probiotic yogurts for gut health etc...

You completely change your lifestyle, and instead of sitting down, you getup and move around - You start walking. Just a mile a day at first, but eventually you are going out in the morning and walking 4 and a half miles, and again in the afternoon for another 2 miles. You do this day in, day out, even in the pouring rain, as you don't wanna let yourself down. You buy special stuff, like diabetic socks as they are better for your feet, and begin massaging your feet with lotion at night, to avoid rough skin.

You realise you have basically begun walking, for nearly 3 hours a day, EVERY DAY, just walking aimlessly for the sake of walking itself. There's no 'reward' when you get back home in the form of food as you only eat healthy stuff. You no longer go out to the pub, as you don't drink anymore, so that social circle of friends fades away.... But you stick at it - Because you are diabetic and 'Want To Do The Right Thing'

You look back at your Xmas Dinner with family, and realise you had a single roast potato, a teaspoon of peas, and piece of turkey no bigger than half a credit card and a teaspoon of gravy. All the be 'Healthy'

Then, your diabetic appointment comes around. You are told that you are still diabetic, and you still really need to do 'More'... At this point, you realise that you are no longer 'living a life' - But you are a slave to this invisible thing called Diabetes...

At what point do you say, 'Fuck It? This ain't living?

But... You keep it up - Another fucking year goes by... Another year of enforced exercise, and restricting your diet... Basically, stopping yourself from having any sort of enjoyment in life, but you stick at it - Take the pills, and follow the rules... You've lost so much weight that you are unrecognisable. People don't think you look slim - They think you look ill and malnourished! You've had to buy an entire new wardrobe... You don't even feel like yourself anymore...

And even after another year, you are STILL told that you are still diabetic, and you still really need to do 'More'... EXACTLY LIKE LAST TIME... What 'More'??? What more IS there to do, other than just stop living completely? At least that way you'll be dead and wont have diabetes anymore...

Eventually, after another year, nothing's changed, so you change. You stop all the extra stuff, and go back out again, into the world, and begin living... When your next appointment comes round, You are told that you are still diabetic, and you still really need to do 'More'... Same old, same old - YAWN - Got bored with it by now...

I think Id rather die 10 years early, than spend another 10 years alive, worrying about diabetes and living my life for it each day...

I'm not gonna confirm or deny that all the above applies to me, but if only 50% of it does, you can see why I say, I really no longer GIVE A FUCK and simply just do whatever the fuck I want these days...

Yes I understand this. I believe moderation is the key, though its not so easy ( for me ) to implement this moderation. Its easier for me not to eat sweet stuff at all than eat only a piece of cake/chocolate and walk away. What I noticed though that if I do a day-long fast, Im less hungry for next few days, like my stomach shrinks or something like that.

A total of 17 tablets a day. Including 2 voluntary ones which are multi vitamins.
As for 'different' a total of 8 - But that's not diabetes

I also take some supplements as well. Have been effective at improving liver and kidney functions. I was bad today. Had a Hokkaido melon, fruit and ice cream bowl for dessert.

I take a pill that stops sugar absorption for 2 hours. Needed it for that deelicious snack.

At the front are 3 pills for first thing in the morning. The remaining 6 are my metformin and 2 more, which I will take tomorrow with my main meal, which will be about 4pm.

I have had ZERO illness / ill effects from the diabetes - But... Multiple issues from the 'cure'... Plus its standard of life - You cant live every hour of the day, thinking I'm diabetic, I must do this I can't do that... Cause if you do... You are NOT living at all, and may as well be dead.

so i went in, and basically told them everything I'd said on here, about just not being assed, and just doing whatever the fuck I want... (minus the swearing) and guess what?

They couldn't have been nicer! Apparently, the treatment guidelines have changed since covid, and whereas they used to take an 'abstinence' direction with their advice, now they take a 'moderation' direction instead...

It was refreshing to hear that when I said 'I know Im overweight' to be told, 'Well who isn't these days?' When I spoke about BMI scales, (Which used to be almost gospel to them in the past) I was told not to worry, and the BMI scales are all out of date these days, and they dont use them anymore.

She said I was at a weight that my body was happy with, and that although I'm still diabetic, i'm in no way as bad as I could be...

I mentioned the milkshake, only to be told 'Well why not? Just not EVERY day...' which I 100% agree with.... I wouldn't want one everyday.

Likewise the Xmas dinner came up, and I was told NOT to do that again ! To eat whatever I want to eat, when I want to eat it, but just not TOO MUCH...

Perfect really. Almost like I myself had been in charge of telling them what to say to me

                                                                              Pleased as punch I am...
