Crescent, the group that the article you posted is about, did nothing on the cheap and easy. They made a lot of money but they spent a lot of money doing it. Something like 250 different sites all together. A good size data center. A fully staffed large customer service center. Their own phone company. Nothing cheap or easy about it. Actually quite a bit ahead of their time. .
