YES I am aware of the changes in Jackson's films. So what? Sometimes works of fiction need to be re-interpreted for the visual medium that is film. Hollywood WILL take liberties - but if they are consistent with the overall tone of the original work than it is acceptable.

The Lord Of The Rings was, for decades, an impossible film to make. Then technology improved enough (and Jackson even invented some) to make the sprawling epic. To film all three movies at once, over two years and $300 million total, was impressive and unprecedented.

But to race and gender swap characters, taking them from the white British-inspired 'alternate history' of England and turning them into a multi-cultural woke mess is the problem. No one likes this shit, not even the multi-cultural woke mob it's meant for.

Wrong. Tolkien DID describe the various races of Middle Earth and in great detail. If he wanted there to be black dwarves and elves and gay characters guess what? He would have written about them! His family had issues with Jackson's omissions and additions but, overall, his films are masterpieces (The Hobbit notwithstanding ugh).

I'm not sure if you're implying an anti-white motive, but I think it's most likely because the (financial/PR) risk of not doing it is greater than for doing it. Facebook and Twitter certainly didn't mind spreading the alt-right/Trump word when there was money in it for them.

Just write this off, ignore it, or even give it a chance. If the story and characters and themes are okay, and there's nobody wearing an "Elf Lives Matter" t-shirt (I would watch it just for that though) then what's the real problem?
