:mad Fucking piece of shit!

Just lost 3 hours worth of fucking work, cause Photoshop locked up! FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!! This has been happening a TON lately. This POS has about had it.

My current piece of shit 400MHZ box blows dirty ass!

Any of you playaz want to barter with me?

I'll offer 7 paysite designs for one of these:
http://www.alienware.com/main/system_pages/area51.asp

$2510.00 + shipping + tax

It works out to be something like $358.57 per site.

Or if you have something else you want designed in exchange, I'm all ears. Just hit me up on ICQ, and we can discuss it.

I recommend learning the "file save" technique.

I personally use the above mentioned technique every 10-15 min.

It's been locking up frequently, especially when I attempt to save. So, I've been having to reboot, and load PS just after booting... and do some work, and save it, before it starts to freeze.

I've had this box for about 5 years, and it's about to choke.

Do you have enough wattage in your power supply?
Have you opened the case and put a fan up to it (it may be overheating)?

Those two things right there are very high probability causes for freezing up.

Just trying to help.

I built this one and it has lasted about 5 years now. I think the processor is about to crap out though. I installed XP Pro on a 400MHZ w/ 128MB RAM... It's just got a ton of resource hogging programs, and it's working the processor like a hottie whore on 50% off Sunday.

Fans are just fine. I checked them last week. The only thing I can think of that may be causing it is, I installed AOL IM, and Yahoo IM not too long ago. Since then, it's been locking up, and the time keeps jumping around.

well im no comp expert but installing winXP on a 400 mhz comp, that doesn't seem like a very good combo, the system would run very laggy.

get used to it no matter how fast your machine is.

I still run on a P2 - 350mhz with only 192mb of ram.

Try closing the GFY board window...you'll soon find out that the problem was always between the chair and the moniter.

Yeah, I'm open to just about any current system, 2.5GHZ or better. I just kinda liked the purple AlienWare one. LOL... but, I'm no stranger to case mods, so, the case really isn't important.

Ok, I just uninstalled and reinstalled PS7, and it seems to be working better now.

Offer retracted for now, unless you had your high hopes on it. ;)

AW machines are garbage Voodoo - better to build your own system and get better components for less. It's just a fucking case and a name after all.

Heck, I'd rather buy on of those old NeXt cases and buff it up - much more striking.

Mate, it takes about two hours with a posi-drive screwdriver, some cable ties and an anti-static strap.

And that's including the time to install everything

No one catching the 2500 HUNDRED (barter) for a ***5*** year OLD system here?! The thing better cook, do the dishes AND the laundry if its even 6 MONTHS old for that price.

We run older systems all the time and no problem. Just need a new fan on the chip and change the supply now and again. They get clogged up no matter what you do and even the air compressor can't get all the dirt out.

(Besides the fact that if you knew anything about the internal part of a transofrmer, they just aren't built to last. (that from the old man who can make transformers and has)

Shouldn't take more than an hour to put a system together and have windows started to install btw. Quit admiring the boards and remember shiny side up!

Errm, I'm pretty sure Intel didn't have a P4 3Ghz chip back in '97.

I'm not selling my system. I want to throw the fucking thing out the window. I'm offering designs in exchange for a "new" PC.

Sorry Railz! I was reading it the WAY it was written. lol

built this one and it has lasted about 5 years now. I think the processor is about to crap out though. I installed XP Pro on a 400MHZ w/ 128MB RAM...

I won't go into whether you are right or wrong about the chip, but we built and sold custom systems from '97 until '00 ;-)p

******************************************

And aha VooDoo! I took it the other way 'round, that you wanted that many designs FOR the system! Makes more sense now. We might talk trade but have no need for paysites at the time. You should be able to put at least a 1.8g, board and some more ram in it for less than 500. Its been awhile since I checked pricing so might be able to beat that.

If you can find them, the P4 1.6A Northwoods are a great buy. Overclock to 2.2Ghz with no problems with the stock cooler.

Chip should run you about $130 now, a motherboard similar to the MSI Ultra-ARU 845 about $80 and a stick of 512 for about $100.

wow, still designing from a 400 mhz box? wtf are you thinking?

If it has a high enough wattage PS and will hold the board, what difference does it make? Or are you one of those guys that think your 1988 dodge looks better because it has a new coat of paint?!

A case is a case. We use older cases and just put a higher PS in it if needed. lol As long as it runs, runs right and doesn't smoke... lol We don't invite people in to oooo and ahhhh over pretty computer cases. Most people don't even know that we even own one let alone a network.

Soooooo... wtf are YOU thinking about?! Pretty = better?!

don't be fooled by that case design, the tiger is inside.
do a search on adult boards, I've heard bad things about alienware. If I were you I'd buy a Dell or make one from spare parts , my actual one is made from spare parts, it kick ass...
Photoshop made me some problems few weeks ago too... I've reinstalled all (win2k +software) and I made a backup with Norton Ghost... it may crash now, I'll restore it in 5 minutes...

Yeah, saw that thread a couple weeks ago... I'm open to any other system. I'm not set on AW specificly. For the same amount of $, I could probably find a much better system than AW anyhow.

In the heat of my frustration w/ my current box, the only site that came to mind was AW.

128 MB of RAM while running XP is your problem. You should have minimum 256, and if you are using photoshop you should have 512.

I've NEVER seen an XP computer ship with less than 256. Even the cheapest pieces of shit. If they could get away with 128, they would.

Yep, its probably just a RAM problem there. XP and PS you'll need at least 512K.

Seriously, a little RAM will go a looooong way.
If you check your system resources i'll bet you are consuming more RAM than you have on board and are chewing up all kinds of SLOW ASS virtual memory/swap space.

I maxed out the RAM on my old win98 pII 350 and it was like a whole new animal.

Plus, ram is super cheap now, specially for older machines. You can get 128 for $15 after rebate at best buy.

yep ... that is EXACTLY what I was about to say ...

I have built my own box (es) .. and have found that XP is designed to run optimally with systems that have better than ½ a gig of RAM ... RAM is cheap ... I'd try that route first ...

you can get 256 MB sticks for LESS THAN $25.00
