Holidays is a bit scary word for him and for me. Try to guess how many holidays we have here for a New Year and Christmas (we celebrate it on January 7th)?
We have 10 days off since 31st December 2021 to 9th January 2022. Banks won't be working and everything will be stopped excepting all sort of entertainments (restaurants, pubs, shops, brothels, parks, museums, clubs etc will be working as usually or even more), but the financial life will be almost stopped.
Do you know how many days off we officially have in a year? 118 days. Now add here a minimal yearly vacation which is 28 calendar days...
try not to go crazy and not become an alcoholic with such a work mode, when 1/3 of a year you don't work and have at least 142 paid days off, guaranteed by the federal law (some categories like medics, teachers etc have even longer vacations).

Following the old Orthodox calendar, Russia along with a few other countries, have two sets of Christmas and New Years. So when I am in the States, which is typically in November to January, and there is a gathering of family and friends, we are "celebrating" everything: Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christian/Catholic Christmas, New Years, Orthodox Christmas, Orthodox New Year.
And Eastern Europe and Russia shuts down. I remember in Slovakia, literally there are a couple of days in between all the holiday closures, when a place like the supermarket would be open. There was a mad rush of thousands of people running around angry, trying to fill up their fridgerators with food and drink.
"The time men spend in trying to impress others they could spend in doing the things by which others would be impressed."
