    Etiquette for In-person Interaction

As we come up on the Vegas show, I've been wondering how folks feel about what is appropriate for in-person interactions. We need a minimal contact way to express warmth and pleasure in seeing one another.

For example, years ago, after moving to the West Coast, I figured that a hug did not mean to a Californian what it means to a New Yorker, and it seemed to be preferred, so I trained myself to usually opt for a hug in the handshake/air kiss/hug game of rock paper scissors. Also, hugs come across as warm while having most minimal germ transfer.

In a pandemic, there are a lot of situations where you can't even replace physical contact with a warm smile.

Personally, I just don't want to be touchy feely under the circumstances. No, I don't want someone rubbing on me with their bare elbow they've been coughing on instead.

I've been a bit frustrated that some of the people I know who are constantly ranting on Facebook or whatever about draconian pandemic rules being great, while being personally careless and giving absolutely zero respect to personal choice or lack of consent in these situations. There are people I normally like, who I just can't be around now, because they are always pressuring me to touch them or give them a sip of my drink or take a bite off their plate.

So what do we feel is the correct etiquette when we are finally able to see one another in January? When almost everyone is making the same choices and those choices fit one's own comfort, it is easy, but it definitely gets harder when either everyone is on a different page or the popular choice is personally uncomfortable.

Everyone I've met at a convention this year that does not want to be touched leads with their greeting, such as a raised "hello" wave, or a closed fist bump. I had a friend over at a BBQ that introduced themselves to everyone by taking one step back and waving hi. Not an issue.

Most importantly - please wear a mask. In a crowded setting where people fly-in from all over the world, everyone should be wearing a mask over their nose and mouth.

Then, I think it’s best to avoid any physical contact - no handshakes, no hugs, no nothing. We are in a pandemic so people should understand.

I think a hand gesture such as a wave or something like that should suffice given the extraordinary circumstances.

Always use a hat and just take it off as a safe way to salute someone . . .

It's been 2 years and you shouldn't do business with anyone that's still hiding in their basement.

Being successful in business requires both a certain amount of courage and the ability to think
            for oneself.

So I agree with you that anyone that's too scared to shake hands should stay home.

At the YNOT Cammunity show in Hollywood a few months ago... Inside the hotel masks were required. At the show itsself we checked for vaccination cards and once inside our area of the hotel masks were not required.

There wasn't much hugging and touching.

let´s keep it real, things are going to be different for a while...

before COVID, a hug, a kiss on each cheek, a hand shake, no matter what felt right. Now, I prefer to just say hi with a little friendly wave, a good metre away, masks on.

I´m not interested whether you´re vaxxed, whether you have it or have had a flu or virus, i´m not here to judge, just keep a distance and then even if I´ve caught something through the day, touching an unclean item or hand rail, then i´m not going to pass anything to you either

Maybe everyone could use the GFY welcome sign!
So don't be offended when someone says hello by giving you the finger.
Some might not understand and keep far far away from you.
But it means, hello, how are you, nice to see you again.
If you put the finger up and down 2 times it means you want a real hug if the other also want.

Not many virus is spread by hands, hardly any corona cases detected that spread that way....... mostly infection by air.
So open all windows if possible and have an outdoor party.

Internext is Hybride so everyone can join!

I usually find that a cheeky, two handed, 'Honk Honk' of the breasts from behind, not only minimises face to face contact, but also serves as an interesting ice-breaker when it comes to meeting female attendees for the first time...
