What the fuck is wrong with my computer.
I recently upgraded my computer to an AMD XP 2200+, 512 MB of Kingmax DDR RAM, and a Geforce 4 Ti4200 video card, running on Windows XP. Been running great for weeks, but now, all of a sudden, it seems to be having these tiny little stalls every 2 or 3 seconds. Tiny little jitters. What the fuck happened?

did you go crazy and install a shitload of programs.....especially ones that load automatically upon startup?
I'm sure it seemed a lot faster when it was fresh. hmmm...tiny little stalls?....have you checked to see how hot it's running. I know when I first got my laptop I tried working on my bed like an idiot..and I guess it overheated and exhibited behavior like you've described. |

I've only installed one program in the last few days, and that was Norton System Works 2003. It was running fine up until and after then. And then randomly (or so it seems), it just starts jittering..
I've only got one program that starts up automatically (MSN messenger, and only 'cause i don't know how to stop it. lol). And the temperature seems very cool when i touch the case. My old computer got much hotter. I'm not really sure what could have triggered it.

It could well be Norton doing something. That program isn't as stable as it was back when Peter Norton was actually involved.

i guess try uninstalling norton
as for msn messenger ....god i hated that little program when I didn't know how to kill it. delete the icons from your program menu, desktop and quick launch.. then go to your file explorer...go to Programs....and delete the MSN Messenger or "Messenger" directory ....it will warn you about affecting other programs or some bs...just hit ok. there you go...no more Messenger. ![]() |

chodadog,
I'm really no expert at all.. just commenting because I had basically the exact same hardware and problems back in time so.. have you checked your bios? is it up to date with your CPU and memory... as far as I understad, RAM can heaten up as well, and if there's some conflicts in bios vs CPU vs RAM and this could be a problem |

Yeah, definitely get rid of norton. Only old people and AOL users use norton.

Antivirus programs are the devil. I prefer taking my chances with no av software at all, rather than having that shit bogging down my system.
Just do a scan every once in a while at housecall.trendmicro.com and view the source code of each email before you open it. (disable the preview pane in outlook first) Works for me. |

AntiVirus programs are the notorious culprits for PC problems because they take an interest in so many components of your system.
