Lavasoft's Adaware is a good start.

It should remove gator and any other spy/adware that you might be unknowingly running.

For Gator, you could also look in your programs folder for GAIN, and remove it from there.

Also get rid of Kazaa. If you are going to use any Kazaa software I recommend Kazaa Lite which is a version free of adware/spyware/scumware. The website for that is http://k-lite.tk.

As recommended, run an install of the Lavasoft AdAware 6.0 from http://www.lavasoft.nu/software/adaware After installation, check for definition updates, and then let it search your computer.

Following Lavasoft, to rule out any other adware/spyware/scumware, run the Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de. Follow the same basic steps as you have for Lavasoft AdAware.

Adaware is good, but Spybot is much better. At least, that was the case last time I tried both.

I hear this comment all the time...but no one seems to say why Spybot is soooo much better. I have used both and they do the exact same thing. Please enlighten us.
