Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulin is called "Amelie" in the U.S. and has a great English version. It's funny as hell too.

Here are some you probably haven't heard of:

"Once Around" with Holly Hunter and Richard Dreyfus. No one's heard of it but it's an excellent family drama. Very moving.

"My Chauffeur" with Deborah Foreman (star of Valley Girl) with a scene featuring Penn and Teller. Schlocky, but she's adorable and funny.

"Real Genius" with Val Kilmer. Very funny movie. Have seen it multiple times.

I'm going to have to bookmark this thread. Remembering some of these movies is like remembering good jokes. You always forget them.

Here's a couple that I would recommend.

For you David Lynch fans.... ERASERHEAD. It's kinda out there... but still very good for you Lynch fans.

Also... Story of Ricky gets listed all the time in the "Bad Movie Reviews" but that's why you need to see it. Too much unbelievable shit to describe here. Suffice to say it's a classic, gory, comedic, mess. (but it's not trying to be funny).

I saw some great choices here--Sliding Doors, Sling Blade, Run Lola Run, True Romance, Falling Down. Here are some additions.
In the Company of Men--disturbing game run by two guys on unsuspecting blind female co-worker.
Searching for Bobby Fischer--well acted, deeply moving
Juice--turning the tables on drug delaers
Sordid Lives--hilarious account of some redneck dysfunctionals
Boyz in the Hood--bringing LA street violence to life

Spider, Crash, Dead Ringers, The Fly, The Dead Zone, Naked Lunch, Existenz, The Brood... and best of all, Videodrome!!

Also Clive Barker flicks... Hellraiser, Candyman, Nightbreed

Oh, and Peter Jackson's Dead Alive, Bad Taste, and Meet the Feebles

Videodrome.... oh yeah... I remember seeing that one like years ago. Great movie with James Woods and Deb Harry.

I think that it may have been the inspiration for the recent movie "The Ring".

I understand there is supposed to be a new special edition DVD out of Meet The Feebles since the only version out is really muddy and so darkly lit in some parts that it's hard to see what's going on...

damnit, now I have that song in my head "innnn the gaaarden..."

The absolute PERFECT date movie.... Coyote Ugly!!

Got enough tits and ass to make the guys happy and a small town girl makes good story for the babes.

And Piper Perabo is one of the hottest women around!!

and I can't believe I forgot "Battle Royale"

Japanese schoolkids dumped off on an island and fitted with exploding neck collars forced to kill off one another until there is only one left...

even inspired a little song I'm working on called "Japanese SchoolGirls With Machine Guns"

Big lebowski is hilarious, i love "THE DUDE". U-Turn with Sean Penn, Jennifer Lopez, Billy Bob Thorton, and John Goodman is one of the best movies out there. Lets not forget Fargo, another great dark humor movie. Oh and Get shorty was cool too, as well as all the "Earnest goes to..." collection LOL
