Who smokes Cubans?

Personally I like any number of Cohiba.

My humidor also contains some Monte Cristos, Romeo & Juliets, and a few Punsch.

Who else likes their cigars? Americans... where do you get your contraband from? LOL

With all candor Cuban cigars are good but not worth the prices. They are more snob appeal then value. Many other cigars are as good or better. Just pick up a copy of cigar affectionado and read the reviews.

Like everything else, blanket statements are meaningless. There are plenty of crappy Cubans, true, but there are some very very good smokes that have yet to be replicated elsewhere.

By the way, the magazine is called "Cigar Afficionado."

Nope, can't say I have. I haven't been to any of my favorite stores in NYC in close to a year and the selection up here is well, kinda thin ;) I'll keep my eyes open for those in my travels. They do make a fine cigar

Before I became an anti-smoking wimp, I did enjoy an occasional Cuban cigar. The problem is that half of the Cubans in Montreal are fake. Let's just say it's easy to tell the difference, even for a novice.

That's what I have heard also. I always get mine at "Vasco", downtown on Ste-Catherine. I've never gotten a bad cigar from that shop.

In Canada, there is an 800% tax on imported tobacco products. So the cigars themselves are cheap before taxes.

Cohibas are great but I prefer Davidoff - Dominicana
Zino Davvidoff stoped production on Cuba at 1980 and removed his production to Dominicana. His Cuba Davidoffs are about 500-1000 USD per robusto today

Many of the old timers that rolled authentic Cohibas, MCs, R&Js have left Cuba and are in Miami. I've grabbed 4 from the famed La Corona Factory in Cuba and sell from freshstogies.com. Great cigars, but margins are crap, as the craft is very labor intensive. I do it for the fringe benefits.

one of my friends visits Cuba each 2 month and buy tons of cigars - as I know he buys Cohibas for about 3-4 USD there

Don't get me wrong, a good cuban is a good cuban. But I think there is plenty of hype around them, and that is what people get wrapped up in.*

There are some great sticks which come out of other places.* Take Honduras for instance, the climate and soil composition is very close to that of Cuba.* One of the main reasons some of the better companies when there after '58.

Top 5 sticks I like for general smoking:

Arturo Fuente (Hemingway Signature)
Partagas Serie S (Perfecto)
Sancho Panza Double Maduro (Cervantaze)* (golf)
Punch Rare Corojo (The previous batch)
Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur (No 2)

There are so many I like though, I could go on for an hour.

Padron anniversary are great as is the padron 1926 both impossible to find both for sale at my local cigar shop be some fluke of good luck.

I also love the Opus X in any size (picked up some "A"s at this same shop)

As far as cubans go, they're good but as has been said, they're over priced. I'd rather buy a box of Opus X than a handful of cohibas.
Partagas Listutania (cuban) is a great cigar.

Cohibas are my choice if I smoke Cuban cigars. Be careful you don't have fakes. You can tell by the band, if they are not perfect blue and white squares then you'll know.

I prefer Davidoff No. 2 or Dunhill's here in SF.

Mostly now I smoke shamen sativa but that isn't a cigar.

You are so right. Padrons are awesome. We just came from the Bahamas and I brought bak a bunch of Montecristo torpedos. They are awesome.

ok you have me curious now... I looked up some info on padron.com. I'll have to see if I can get some of these at Vasco here in Montreal.

Nicaraguan tobacco made with the flavor of the Cuban heritage...

Hells yeah! The shop we went to down the street from me still hasn't had any in stock since the last time you were down here Brent.

CAO anniversary and the Oliva "O" rate a close second and third in my book.
