I bought a farm yesterday!

I don't know why but I am on a country/farm kick lately. Maybe I have become too use to the suburbs that moving back to a larger city has made me long for the peace and quiet of a more remote location.

So yesterday I stumbled across a huge farm and decided to go ahead and get it.

Six buildings on a huge spread. Some of the buildings are partially furnished, some farm equipment... a lot came with this sale, a really good deal.

It may not be exactly what I was looking for, but will be good enough. I need to expand my country wardrobe and see about getting some animals on this farm!!!

Best 40.00 I have spent for something like this!!!

I own a fairly big chunk of land (170 acres) in central Va. It has a barn, and a dilapidated house. It's fully timbered with several springs and streams. I haven't done anything with it, but pay taxes year after year.

But, with Va passing legislation to legalize sale of weed in 2024, I think I should at least look into harvesting the timber and using that money to build a grow operation.

I know nothing about growing weed.

We own a 5-acre farm here in VT. It's a perfect size. Way back, this used to be an apple orchard. What a pain in the ass it was cleaning up the orchard. The fuckin grape vines sucked to get rid of. Now, the apples thrive, and the deer make it a part of the weekly deal to stop by. It's kinda cool to watch them do deer stuff out there.

The peace and quiet is so nice.

I haven't smoked in years - back in college when I bartended it was common for me to find a baggie someone dropped while I was cleaning up at the end of the night. SCORE!

From what I remember, though, cheap weed with a lot of seeds and stems gave me a headache.

I would suspect most weed on the streets these days can be traced back to dispensaries in states where it's legal, so is of higher quality than the random stuff from back in the day.

I would also not really classify this as "Clip Art" It's a full 3 dimensional scene, 6 complete buildings all with yards, trees, furniture... trucks, tractors, cars... A little more than "Clip Art". The 3D artist that created this put in many hours building all this. It really was a great deal.

Property taxes are a sore subject. My school tax, in VT, is 75% of the prop tax bill. (Vermont is run by the teachers union). By Vermont standards, Prop taxes are brutal. By Tri-State standards, the taxes are cheap. Taxes, in general, are way too fuckin high. The yearly joke is, "The Legislator is in season, what taxes are they going to raise this year". The Legislator is run by Liberals. Need I say more?. VT is awesome though.

Prop taxes in NH are also painful. NH makes most of its revenue from the southern part of the state (Boston North). From Concord south, the taxes are brutal. Mostly because the Massholes have moved to NH to escape taxes in MA. The rule of thumb is, If it's commutable to Boston, the prop taxes will ass rape you. If it's someplace where the Massholes have a second home, the taxes will still ass rape you. (Lakes Region and The Whites).

On the upside, NH does not have Sales Tax, Income Tax and, they also don't tax Social Security. Gas is wicked cheap compared to surrounding states. Most people travel to NH if they are making a major purchase, buying 'sin tax' stuff, and shopping in general. No Sales tax. We make the trek over to NH once a month to stock up. It's worth the trip in the end.

The downside to both states is it's difficult to make a good living unless you are highly skilled and have a killer job.
