I was a HUGE Beatles fan at the time (still am) and John was my favorite. I wanted to move into New York City to go to all the places he went in hopes of meeting him one day (moved into the city but by then, too late he was gone). I cried for days and even stayed out of school for 2 days I think.
The Young Ones!!! I loved that series.... I think I have converted VHS copies laying around somewhere... if I remember, the quality is not the greatest.
For me... It would be George Carlin. We need him back to call us out on the way we abuse and misuse language. I was fortunate to meet the man twice. Mostly in passing situations but was very friendly to us common folk.
Joachim "Jokke" Nielsen. I had one of his records paused in my cd player as I watched the news. Then they suddenly announced he had died from an overdose at age 36 x|
Robin Williams. It was surprising that someone who was so funny and had so much going to him sufered from depression.
To be fair the funniest comedians are broken people...
Robin Williams was not depressed. He had a neurodegenerative disease like Alzheimers that was starting to affect his life and work and didn't want to rot into a vegetable.

Yup it's very common... constant need to be "on" and appreciated. Back in my ensemble comedy / stand up days I knew several people who were so broken and so starved for attention, and so competitive to be the funniest, it was tiring to be around them.
When I read the news about Robin I was pretty cut up about it but not surprised.
What's so weird about that? I grew up watching All in the Family and was inspired by the actor (one of many) which led me to also want to be an actor. I even went to his funeral 20 years ago.
His incredible talent brought so much happiness through his music to so many people, and yet he died alone, abandoned - another victim of mass popular media homophobia.
Freddy was pretty close to home for me at the time - I read about it on the bus on the way to work and burst into tears - I had lost friends to AIDs around that time and it really hit me hard...
Most recent one for me was Chadwick Boseman. He smashed it as Black Panther. Owen Harts death was awful. He was proper ribber. Some of his pranks are legendary. Luke Harpers death recently was also unexpected
