    Rant Paying Extortion Fees!

Murder someone and that will never go away... you will always be wanted. Don't pay a student loan, they too will never go away and haunt you for life and guess what else will never go away.... DUI's.

So I found out 5 years ago that I had an outstanding DUI in MN from over 30 years ago. Did I do it? I'm sure I did, crashed a car, woke up in the hospital bla, bla, bla.

One thing that never happened is..... I was never jailed of fined. Not at the hospital or when I went to the police station to pick up my drivers license. NOTHING!

My job transferred me to CA shortly after the accident, surrendered my MN license to CA, no mention of any DUI or loss of driving privilege. Had a license all those years in CA, AZ, NV, PA and WA, spotless record, no tickets, no accidents, nothing...

As my WA license expired a few years ago, I learned of all this and the requirements to get my driving privilege back. Proof of insurance on a vehicle that was totaled over 30 years ago, the license plate of the car that was scrapped over 30 years ago and approx 800.00.

Fuck it... gonna have to bite to bullet... don't need a car in the city but it's time to leave this shit hole state and head west again! For some reason, Oregon is looking good... a little mountain cabin with good internet

When I was a kid growing up in NJ in the 1980s I had traffic violation - illegal passing - and then a short time later a car crash. The State charged me a special "insurance surchage" of $400 a year. I paid it the first year, but then joined the Marines and didn't have a driver's license in NJ so I didn't pay it. The state of NJ sent bills to my parent's house in NJ but I figured since I didn't have a NJ drivers license I didn't need to pay it. Never heard about it again.

I never gave this a 2nd thought till my WA license expired, I have no problem paying the fine, but 1986 period fines when it happened, not 2021 period fines when it gets paid. If the cops had done their job and fined me when I picked up my license at the police station this would have been handled in 1986. I believe at the time the punishment for DUI was 2 days in the workhouse, not 800.00. UG!

Why are you whining about you committing a crime and it catching up with you later in life? You should've handled it then if you didn't want it to bite you in the ass later on.

Do you post anything other than threads of you whining about trivial shit?

If you don't like my posts.... Don't read them

and I guess you missed the part that said... I WAS NEVER TICKETED OR FINED at the time of the accident nor when I went to the police station to pick up my drivers license.

I could be insulting as you were and say, another product of our wonderful education system... but I'll take the high road.

How would you know since you say you woke up in the hospital?

I'm not an attorney, so this is not legal advice, but you probably have the right to find out from the DMV what database this info is in and take it up with the database.

Get a lawyer and plead your case. With a spotless record you'll probably get it dismissed with court costs or something like that. But get yourself a lawyer.

Eh... it did happen... I have no problem owning up to it... it should have been handled when I went to get my license from the police station. If nothing else, I should have received a fine or citation. All I got was... "Oh, this is you... don't let it happen again!". Keep in mind, this is 1986, drinking and driving did not have the social taboo or criminal penalties that it has today nor did it have the sever fines.

I just cannot believe that something this old is still on file. Statute of limitations stops them from prosecuting a criminal offense, but they can force me to pay any fee they see fit to drive. The way the population has grown and cities expanding, driving is more of a necessity these days... Try to take a bus from one suburb to another... plan on a lunch LMAO.

If not for covid, it would not matter so much but these days do not want to get on a bus, take a taxi or ride share... Glad winter is over... I like walking when it's nice LOL.

And? I still don't understand being surprised by a fine for a crime you admit to committing.

I definitely don't understand whining about it on an internet marketing forum. (or in general, really, but especially this)

It's called narcism. It's the art of not owning up to one's mistakes and trying to shift the blame to make yourself look like the victim so you get all the attention and sympathy.

                        This is a text-book example.

There is a thing in the United States called Statue of Limitations. Most things to not go past 7-10 years, Murder is one that never goes away.

My issue is, this is still here when, again, NOTHING ever happened at the time of the incident. When I transferred to CA with my job, MN knew where I was when I surrendered my license to CA.

As for whining? Well, more like confused on the length of this... and why they never pursued anything at the time. Big difference.

Statute of limitations only applies to the period of time from when the infraction occurred to when you were charged. Once charged - within that time-frame - the statute of limitations no longer applies.

If you feel you were never charged - which is doubtful since they took your license - then get a lawyer and take it to court.
