                                      Yeah, the Corky bit was pushing it way over the line. I've worked with mentally handicapped people in the past & they have to fight with being rediculed every day. Alot of them are very intelligent but can't express it.

                                          I don't know my brothers seem to piss their pants whenever you just mention Corky. We used to watch that show when it was on years back. It was totally cheesy. My favorite episode was when Corky put his leather jacket and rebelled. That was killer.

                                          It wasn't my fault, DHTC though he was clever when he called someone Corky so I had to unleash Corky the Quantam Physicist. If you really want to crucify me for Corky think twice before you call someone a retard.

                                          Corky is not retarded he has Down's Syndrome, a genetic disease which causes the body's cells to divide improperly. A person like Corky have only mild to moderate retardation. He can do pretty much anything you and I can do. He can read and write at a highschool level. Mentally handicapped people need to be treated as equals in our society, they can defend themselves, they don't need to be patronized or condescended.

                                          Is making fun of Forrest Gump less offensive?

                                          Well Corky got whacked so you can all sleep soundly knowing he will never post anything about Fractal Geometry.

                                              sweetjimmy.... I have no problems with any of your other personalities.... In fact I have laughed so hard I have about pissed my pants too........ BUT the Corky one just hit a nerve with alot of folks I think.... me included.

                                              Everyone knows I can cut up and play with the best of them.... but the poking fun of people that have handicaps is taking it a bit too damn far. It's just the Corky one bothered me quite a bit.....

                                              I also used to wok in a place where they would hire the mentally handicapped to come in and do small jobs to teach them independence and the people working there would make fun of them soo bad...... it's really sad, especially when they should have been commending them for having come so far that they can function as adults and in the workforce........

                                              Sorry... I mean you no offense, just the Corky thing all but caused me to leave this board, it bothered me that bad.

                                                      This is Corky we're talking about here. He's quite possibly the worst spokesman for his cause that ever existed. Instead of humanizing the "mentally challenged" he made them even easier to pick on. Did you ever see that Garth Brookes video? That shit's just awful. You know the one where the "mentally challenged" person is running a race and then he falls down and starts gushing blood like a stuck pig. It's totally offensive to me. That idiot Garth Brookes just makes them easier to pick on with that "we are the world" bullshit.

                                                      You're right Jamdin they do have to put up with that shit everday. I remember in highschool people would tease them constantly. I'm no saint I would laugh as well, and people still laugh when they see shit like There's Something About Mary and Forrest Gump.

                                                      All these patronizing t.v. shows and special olympics make the "mentally-handicapped" more fun to pick on because DA MAN is telling you its wrong to make fun of them, and when you tell people that its wrong then it becomes "cool". I think There's Something About Mary actually did alot to humanize the "mentally challenged". I think it made people see the "mentally challenged" as a person instead of some politically correct label.

                                                      Tam did you do anything to stop your co-workers from making fun of them? Or were you afraid of being "uncool"?
