    Step-father has COVID

    To make a long story short... My father died when I was a baby, mother remarried, and I was raised by my step-father Robert. We didn't get along well, I left home at a young age, and we haven't been close all of these years. My family is split, my mother lives here with me in California and my half brother and step-father live in PA. I rarely return "home" to the East Coast, and when I do it's a short visit for a funeral or a wedding. I haven't seen my step-father in ten years, haven't spoken to him in five years - mostly because he can't remember who I am and calls me by my brother's name.

    I just found out yesterday he has COVID, along with his partner Pat. Pat is in the hospital. Step-father is 85 and not in good health to begin with.

    Much to my surprise he is a full on Trump supporter, believes COVID is a "hoax" and refuses to wear a mask unless he absolutely has to. The only reason he made it this far is because his nursing home has been pretty much locked down and he doesn't own a car any more.

              The family by marriage of my girlfriend who are living in Spain all got covid. The parents of 80+ went to hospital. That was cause the family keept pressure to have a meeting after new years eve. As mexicans they really hate Trump. But still they got the corona. The family is Spanish and live in Madrid. So they knew that it could go wrong.

              And there i must agree. Some people are just stupid. They thought they organized it well with distancing. When i visited my father is qurantained myself for 10 days.
              Easy, just rented a chalet in the woods when i was in Holland and put the fridge full.

              I know a 94 year old woman that keeps making her walks and visits to friends. She says there is 95% change that she won't get much older anyway. She choose quality of life instead of dying alone. But there are people that want to forbid her to make that choice on her own.

              I hope all families get better. The family in Madrid is already out of the Hospital.

                  Unfortunately, there seem to be a lot of people like that in the states (and on GFY). They'll continue to claim it's a hoax even to the point of the dying. It's sad, pathetic and unbelievable.

                          My son let us know earlier this week that he had tested positive. Showed the first symptoms on January 31. Had a wicked cough and congestion through this past weekend.

                          Yesterday he said he was feeling somewhat better and today a bit more. Still has a lingering cough. So, 17 days since first symptoms and he isn't done yet. We are hoping that it is all done with.

                          Navy told him stay home until no more symptoms.

                          He does not know where he picked it up, most probably at work. He said he and 3 others in his shop got it. They don't know which one brought it in.

                              Was going to ask if he took any prescribed meds, by doctors, but I already know he didn't if it lingered for 17+ days.

                                  I do not know what his course of treatment was. He did whatever his Doctors told him to.

                                  He is 1500 miles away from me so I only know what he has told me and he did not go into the specifics.

                                                                      Step father is doing "good" although that's all the information I have. His "partner" (who is her 90s) is not doing good and is in the hospital. We are having a family call later today to get details.
