    Cookie Stuff Adnetworks Stealing Sales?

    Hi folks

I came across a post on that Chaturbate thread & someone said "Do Exoclick cookie stuff ? as since I've added Exoclick adverts to my websites my Chaturbate sign ups stats have dropped around 90%. :-)"

I planned on adding Juicyads on my site that has cam sites. Would this effect my sales? Not 100% sure how this works on strealing but I don't want to lose any revshare!

What about Crakrevenue do they do the same thing? I don't want any of my sales to be stolen.

JuicyAds doesn't do that. You can always talk to their support staff or ask in DM on Twitter.

    It's really a great company. #KeepItJuicy

Great! Just a bit paranoid after reading what they said.

Should I turn off this in Juicy?

      "3rd Party Code
Trusted Advertisers are permitted to use Javascript, Flash, or iFrame ads. These ads often pay higher but have risk."

      I have it off

There are two things to consider:

        1. At Chaturbate, is affiliate tracking set up as "first click wins", or "last click wins"? (I don't know.)

If it's "last click wins", there is no need to worry about any kind of cookie stuffing. If someone clicks on a Cam Ad on your site, that will be the "last click", and you win the customer.
If it's "first click wins", it's possible that an advertiser on your site places an affiliate cookie in the visitor's browser, BEFORE your visitor could click a Cam Ad on your site manually. In this case, his will be the "first click" you would lose that sale - and your overall sales could drop.

        2. What kind of ads are you adding?

So if it's a "first click wins" system, someone who buys advertising on your site could "steal" your affiliate sales in theory.
But it depends on the kind of advertising you're adding to your site.

        A. If you're adding plain image banner ads, it's not possible to cookie stuff.
        B. If you're adding popunders, there's a chance for it. For instance someone could be buying your popunders and directing it to Chaturbate - it's not even cookie stuffing, it's fully legit ad buying. A buyer could also buy popunders to some domain he owns, and open some Chaturbate window from there. That could be a legit thing, or cookie stuffing, depending on the way he does it. (It's called cookie stuffing if Chaturbate is opened but it's invisible to the user. If it's invisible, people obviously can't buy anything there at that time, only the cookie is placed.)
        C. If the advertiser can use Javascript/iFrame etc in their ads, they could use that to cookie stuff in theory. It's not what they're meant for, and ad networks should not approve ads with such code. But some might slip through if the particular ad network isn't careful enough.

I posted a thread on this some time ago and nobody could give me a clear answer. Not referring to Chaturbate in particular, but sponsors in general. I don't know of any sponsors who actually state whether 'first click wins' or 'second click wins'. As I occasionally get sales with the 'referral' from another affiliate site, then I assume most sponsors apply the 'last click wins' rule.

If that's the case, it would mean it could actually be an advantage to sit behind your rivals on Google.

Have you tried turning off the ads to see if your sales came back? It could just be a coincidence.

Nope. I had only cams on my site, but I added Juicyads for extra income but I did turn off that "3rd party" option. I'm still not sure if I should add Crak or Juicyads banners. I was going to add juicyad links too. That guy said exoclick gave him the issue.

I could see if they enter my site, click a banner and sign up, kind of the point of advertising, I just don't want my customers to all of a sudden have some cookie without even clicking the banner ad.

Most affiliate programs track sales based on cookies. That means each time an affiliate cookie is stored the older one is overwritten and the previous webmaster is at a loss. Sometimes a surfer can receive a cookie a couple of times before he finally decides to pull out his credit card. You can't really change anything about that unless you are promoting a program that binds an registered customer account to the original affiliate.

NATS is "last click wins", so cookie stuffing isn't possible for NATS sponsors

                        https://tmmwiki.com/index.php/NATS4_track_and_strack

A surfer passes through the tracking link for affiliate 1, and NATS creates a cookie and starts tracking for affiliate 1. If the same surfer then travels through a tracking link for affiliate 2, NATS begins tracking for affiliate 2, forgetting about affiliate 1.

The whole point of cookie stuffing is that some affiliate programs do NOT work like that.

If at a program they use the "first click wins" approach, the cookie does not get overwritten when there's a new affiliate click.

And I agree, sponsors should be really clear about their cookie/tracking policies

                            - how long do cookies last
                            - is it "first click wins" or "last click wins"
                            - what methods other than cookies they use to make sure affiliate gets the sale

Even NATS is not that great in this aspect, they do not show what cookie length the program has set.
In CCBILL you can view this information for the affiliate programs you're signed up to.
