What sort of questions do you ask link sellers?

Been getting alot of people emailing me asking if I want to buy a link for a year? and the only question Ive been asking is what is the average amount of times that other links in the same place are being clicked per day/per month. An easy statistic shown on google analytics. Everyone offering has no idea. I don't get it, why cant that sort of stat be produced.

An example. I have an Adult Webmasters banner in my footer. And its being clicked on 100 times a month.

Random website owners mailing you to ask if you want a purchase link? Usually it's the other way around.

Well, it's likely their traffic doesn't convert, why else would someone go through all that trouble. Feels like a weird way of monetization.

And the average amount of clicks is kinda hard to tell... It all depends on the amount of traffic that website gets and the link location (header or footer etc), if it has pop ups and stuff like that. A lot of factors come in to play.

In a lot of cases it isn't even about the clicks/traffic, but for linkbuilding.

$400 - 1000 per year is an expensive link.

If someone is asking those prices for 1 link, that site should already have a real good chunk of traffic.

If he or she already has a high traffic website, then why would that owner be so desperate to go around and email other random website owners? Just sounds a bit scammy to me.

Don't take candy from strangers, I guess?
