Well your question depends on many factors, the biggest of which is will your child WANT to run your business if you leave it to him/her? Often times the answer is "No" and they are more interested in selling off the assets for cold hard cash.
It would also depend on when you retire (or die). No sense in leaving a porn biz to a 9 year old, for example.
My hope is that I sell out and leave the Adult biz behind and not have to worry about giving it to my (non-existent) progeny.

Hey guys,
A few years ago I employed a younger cousin of mine. I was focusing on mainstream investment stuff at the time and was thinking I could train him up and let him run it and eventually own the business.
Little bastard ripped me off and it turned in to a complete cluster F.
I know you shouldn't work with family but I was helping him out, thought it might set him up.
End result is that I've kept the business, staff are fantastic and I'll just keep the cash cow forever.

I feel your pain. I have 3 daughters...the oldest told no friends what I do, the middle told a couple, and then it became a big thing during one of her classes where they were discussing what your parents did for a living. One boy knew what I do and called her out - when she didn't want to tell, the teacher was curious and called her out as well, and out it came.
They are 27 and 22 now.
I have one little one (12) left and I just don't have the care to try and lie about what I do...so she knows and a few of her friend's mom's know. The shock on their face is pretty awesome when they find out I will say.
I'm assuming you work in "porn" and well that would be hard for a man to explain to a daughter. I think my situation is much easier. I don't know what you will do.

It depends if they have a willingness on their own to work with computers and on the net like I'm sure many of us did back in the day. Eager to get home from school and get on the computer to tinker. If something breaks, try fixing it themselves. Finding ways to be a contributor to the internet rather than a pure consumer.Comment
