I see a gray spot in my vision, wtf?????
I see a little gray spot with my right eye, which moves with my eye when I look around. I can't always notice it, but when it's bright outside or when i look at a window on the screen with white background, i can see it more clearly. It's been like a week since I had it.
I tried to open a white page, looked at the center and tried to mark where the spot is. but actually it moves. for example i mark it, then i rotate my eye to far right, and i look again, it moves towards left, same happens visa versa.. also when i look up as high as i can, it moves down, etc... maybe i'm gonna go see a doctor, but i'm so busy these days.. anyone had something similar before?

yeah floaters suck ballZ
![]() I switched from 2 crt monitors to 1 lcd but I don't know how much difference it makes. I think computer use could cause people to get them earlier in life due to the radiation.

Yeh, seriously Lane, don't mess with the eyes, you only have two. Get to the eye doc ASAP.
My ex-wife wore contacts. Was putting on her makeup, getting ready for a new years party. One of her contacts slipped out. She didn't wash her hands before reinserting it. Women's makeup often is loaded with germs and bacteria. By not washing she inserted psuedomonus into her eye. 5 hours later her eye was itching and irritated. It was New Years and we were in Malibu. Drove over to UCLA Medical Center, but with the holiday there were no eye specialists on duty in the ER. The doofus who wasn't even a doctor just put a patch over her eye and said to come back on Monday morning. I said shouldn't you put some antibiotics in there or something. He said he couldn't do prescriptions and by then the place was getting loaded with drunk driving incident people and shit so we left. By Monday morning the psuedomonus bacteria colonized in her cornea. We went to the Jules Stein eye institute and the doctor looked at it and said she needed to be admitted immediately and that there would be permenant scaring on her eye and she might even loose her vision completely. She was in the hospital for a week. Didn't loose her eyesight but did suffer a permenant scar over her cornea so she could never see well out of that eye again. Had to stay in a darkened room for a solid month with no exposure to sunlight. And then had a 6 month period where she was so light sensitive it would cause her pain like crazy. So don't mess with eye stuff. What you can't see going on could be very dangerous if not detected and treated promptly.

I understand your concern KRL, considering the horrifying experience you and your wife had. Sounds like it was really scary!
Everyone should certainly see an optomotrist regularly for eye health checks (once a year) as well as for an Rx, but what Lane is experiencing now is a perfectly normal phenomenon described by the link posted by labret.

I just did a little research on floaters on google.. It exactly describes the situation. and they all suggest that I should go see an eye doctor. I might even go to the ER tonite.
thanks everyone

Please tell me where you were told it was an emergency, I'm really surprised! I worked for eye doctors for 3 years, and we never sent anyone to an Ophthalmologist or the er for a floater.

I ran an optometry clinic for the USAF for 4 years...go see an optometrist and be prepared for a possible referral to an ophthalmalogist...might be a floater, might be macular degeneration setting in...several things that it could be. Some are treatable if caught early enough. The fact that it moves with you is a good sign.

Millions of people have floaters.. usually later in life.
Floaters are thought by some to be caused/aggravated by liver toxicity. If you do any drugs or drinking you might lay off a little bit, you might also stay way from sugar for a bit. Your optometrist or GP wont say or agree with this though. They'll switch on their Dr. Roboto voice and say something like: "floaters are caused by vitreous degeneration. As we age, the vitreous gel begins to degenerate into clumps of proteinaceous material which floats in the eye, it's uncureable - pay me now. Western Medicine is cool ![]() But just to be on the safe side you should go have your vision checked real quick to make sure its not a problem with your vision like a detached retina. |

it suddenly appeared, one day, out of nowhere
sometimes i focus too much on something, like coding or playing a game.. maybe i even forget to blink for long periods, i'm not sure.. i used hold my breath when i got excited, but i kinda got over that.. anyway, i dunno if it might have happened due to too much stress on my eyes, because sometimes they become so red. (and no, i dont smoke) i called the univ. hospital, i'll see the doc tomorrow morning.. i thought they were gonna schedule it a lot later than that, and i got a little paranoid after reading all the stuff about retinal detachment etc.., that's why i was thinking about going to ER, but i'll just wait till tomorrow morning.. floaters arent too common on young people, hopefully it isnt serious.

Are floaters like a spot that doesn't exactly move with your eyes? Rather than just a static blind spot in your vision, it's actually a little spot that 'catches up' when you move your eyes? I've had one of those in my right eye for a couple of years...

Had a detached retina 13 years ago, lost 90% of the vision in my right eye as I 'ignored' the floaters, the grey screen over the vision, etc .. out of fear. I was very stupid.
Don't put it off, go see a retinal specialist, they can correct it in-office with laser surgery. Don't wait until it's too late like I did. Don't go to the ER, you'll wait 10 hours to be told you need to see an eye specialist, which is what you need. They use special equipment to see into the eye and behind it and can detect what's wrong.

I have a floater in my right eye, it was diagnosed last year and I was told it is genetic, and it is permanent. However he said I would get so used to it that I would eventually not see them any longer.
It's been about one year and when it's sunny, out it comes ![]() Good luck |

Post what happens at the doctor tomorrow. I have the same thing. I noticed it a few weeks ago when I was swimming and opening my eyes underwater. I already know within a year or two I'm going to need glasses. I can't see shit far-away anymore. I spend way too much time on the computer.
