cropping and sharpening your thumbs make your gallery look nice.

and for ads
i use a banner and one or two text links
make sure the color of the banner fits into your galleries color and maybe design a banner yourself usign the girl/guy in the gallery
so it all hangs together

the content in your mainsite/tour and the gallery have to mach. If they like the pics in the gallery they will visit your main site, make sure that they find there what they like (the content in the gallery).

Use real heavy photos for that nice bandwith bill.

In my opinion the first thing you have to think about when you are placing the advertisemnents on your gallery is: "Why are the people clicking on my banners"

I think the answer is: "Because I like these pictures and I want more pictures of the same I already saw in the gallery"

When you know this you can conclude that the you will get the best conversion ratio (and the highest turnover) when you use niche sites that offer the same as the sort pictures on your site!

Conclusion:
lesbian pics -----> lesbian sponsor
amateur pics -----> amateur sponsor (f.e. AP)

Take a look at a few of my galleries and you exactly know what I mean:

Pornstar Pics -----> Pornstar sponsor http://www.downlinefiesta.com/tgp/sky1/

Amateur Teens -----> Amateur sponsor http://xxxhotxxx.freepornspace.com/b2/

But when use targetted sponsors you have to take care that your traffic is not closing your site immediately. The best way to achieve this is in my opinion by making clean galleries. Surfers don't like scattered galleries with lots of adds. I believe that clean galleries make more bannerclicks than banner farm galleries. And when this isn't true than you will get a better conversion ratio with this approach, because people are not fucked up because of the shitty gallery they saw. Clean galleries will have bannerclicks of people who want to see wat the sponsor is offering. This will result in a better conversion ratio.

It simply DOES NOT WORK! I've been testing it for near 5 months after reading an article at theadultwebmaster.com stating that it should increase signups. Bullshit! It doesn't work.

A few weeks ago I had a foot fetish gallery listed at Dr. Bizzaro and Richard's Realm on the same day - what did I see? Record signups! Why? Because I was promoting a "FREE preview" of a paysite, not saying shit like "instant access just $2.95".

Believe me... surfers love the word "free".

By not quoting a price people don't have the idea the "lose" money

yeah 1 banner and 2 or 3 text link will work great

As for not saying the price to surfer I don't agree entirely - if you put the price info you will get rid off freeloaders, and your conversion ratios will look better too But I am only talking about those trial prices...Anyway after few experiments I can say the most important thing is to make surfer believe he really HAS to look there and click the link.

You are right about the word free as long as theres someting free at the end of it. People use this word to jerk off visitors but it still remains the top click maker.

As far as placing a price goes, many of the ARS banners include a price and they seem to work well when supported by some good pics.
