Dialers totally fuck ppl, charging like $6.95 a minute You're fucked

I don't like ppl to be screwed, that's why i don't do like 'bad' things on dialers (like autodownloads)... however if somebody clicks on the banner and downloads it it's his problem eh

Adult Buffet (buf father) is one of my good friends.. We use the same dialers, and I am one of his top reffers on ALL HIS SITES.

Im am proud to hear he had his name mentioned on a tv show!! I only wish it were my sites they mentioned!!

Dialers are great if used properly. They are no more devious than the reccuring billing, phone sex, or psychic readings.

Im sure most surfers know that they are being charged at the time, but are just too horny to care. Come the end of the month when the wife is pissed because of the phone bill, they decide to dispute the charge.

Im sure The Adult Buffet didnt use the words FREE either. For a site of his size, he would have known better than to break the Golden Dialer Rule. (Using the words "free")

Boneprone, as far as your comments "If you are gunna get moral go to church and stop being pornographer". I don't consider it moral or non-moral having dialers on my page, it's all about FUCKING people over. Sure they should read the fine print, but like Exxxotica says, sometimes they're just too horny to care at the time. People are good at not reading terms, which I guess would put the blame on them, so then I shouldn't worry about it. Like you say, they are legal. Also, I guess that some of the recurring programs can be as devious.

I'm not here to start a bashing thread on dialers, but you have to admit, some of them DO take advantage of people. Like the story on Cybercrime, they say that the dial SILENCED his modem, so he couldn't hear it dialing, then charged him and arm and a leg. That's totally lame. Sure, if a dialer will give a visitor something nice to see and not charge him and arm and a leg, I could go along with it. Like I say, some dialers are more fair than others.

Also, the owner of Adult Buffet notice any increased in his traffic after that show aired, that's some nice exposure there. I don't know how many people watch that show, but I wonder if people would be interested in that and go to the site or be worried and stay away from it. I guess most of his visitors are people that will never see Cybercrime anyways, he he he.

I'm not sure how a dialer in Windows would actually be able to silence the modem without going into the Windows registry and fooling with settings (BAD IDEA IMHO). The modem volume is a Windows setting and without it using some sort of terminal and sending AT commands to the modem (do people actually know and use those ancient commands anymore? hehehehe) - I'm not sure how you'd silence the modem without the surfer knowing about it. Anyone know if that really is possible? Dirty little trick if it is...

Don't know much about dialers, but the dialer could send an init string to the modem to keep the speaker off. I am not sure if the command is universal, but it would work most of the time. Pretty clever (read "deceptive") if you ask me...

give me a break boneprone, how would you feel if one month you got a bill from the phone company for 500$ and if you did not pay then they would cut your phone service?
I know that ppl can be selfish but I would not want to take some dude's 500$, just my 2 cents...

First of all that isnt boneprone.. I am..
Secondly in defense of the dialer there is a disclaimer for the dialer, and it is quite difficult to get a bill that high.. The dialer disconects after 20 minutes use..

Third the surfer should know what he is getting into.. They need to open their eyes and read the disclaimer that is in no way misleading.. In fact it is huge, and more prevalent a warning than these "free sites" you see, or the standard 2.95 trial you see on any other program.

How is this different from the standard practice of recuring billing? Where a paysite continutes to re-bill every month? This is how these sites make money, on the recurring month after month after month.. And may people say it is on the people who dont check their bills evrymonth that they get this huge amount of revenue.. How is the dialer any different? There is a disclaimer for both programs.. The dialer even more so.. The dialer reams in sooo much because it is a purchase of impulsiveness. Porn is impulsive.. You dont need to rip out a credit card.. Just click.. ANd see it now! But yes I agree they are both misleading.. But I emphasize they both are .. One can argue the dialer makes most of its money being misleading perhaps, but so does the recurring practices you see on all major programs.


But the argument also goes for both, what makes you think that they dont know that they are paying that much to check out the content on the dialer? Or what makes you think the recurring memeber doesnt know he is being billed 40.00 a month on his credit card??

Come on man wake up! Everyone knows how the industry makes money.. If you dont like it get out and wuit yo bitchin.

But adding to what you said, I fully agree with you. Dialers are no more misleading than recurring programs. If you look at how recurring programs make money, you will surely find that many people who pay for the 3.95 trial have no idea that they will be charged thatn 39.95 after the 5 day trial is over.. By the time they find out, their statment will have been charged twice by then.. Only then do they cancel.. And they arent gunna complain.. No one wants to call the creditcard company and admit they bought porn, and they didnt want to get charged the following month. Its easier just to forget about it.

The disclaimers are there, both on dialers and pay programs.. This is how things work.. And I agree stop yo bitchin. If you dont like how thibgs are done get out of the nework and stick to your day job.

I watch it on my satilite,"TechTV"
I'm always catching something on there.
It should be the channel preferred by webmasters in general.

The channel is called "Tech Tv", is used to be called Zdtv, but they changed it.

Anyways, the show will be re-aired THIS Tuesday, it comes on at 6pm, 9:30pm, and 12:30am. All times are Eastern. Hopefully you guys can catch it, the first story is the one about Adult Buffett. Then they have another interesting story about how someone hijacked some search engine listings. I'm sure that it should be the same episode because they show new episodes every Friday.
