I don't agree with the high level of crime in the black communities but lets face it they are trapped in a vicious circle whose rules were laid down by white folk.

jaYMan and we live close by there. The news reports were saying the cop said hold it hands up and all and he reached down quickly. In the dark and the cop not right by him? Most would have done the same thing.

There have been a couple other blacks shot lately (months apart?)I *know* that part of town. Lived in Cincy for a few years. Its rough for sure. Now a cop has been shot the soldiers are on standby, curfew from 8pm-6am for the WHOLE city.

But to trash someones property is ludicrous. Order is out to arrest for felonious rioting or some such too. 20 years in prison!

Do you think that it's fair to those 67 acts of violence, MOST LIKELY on white people ??? I'm sure that you're gonna tell me that those are ok though because one black person was killed.

When was the last time that a white riot happend and a bunch of black people were injured ???? I can't recall. I can recall MANY black riots in which this happend.

I sat and watched 20 mins of tape live tonight slick while I half looked at that link. It was fearsome.

And NO April, YOU read. Most of the ones arrested came from OUTside that area...suburbs! And imagine 3 square blocks of businesses totally trashed! Is THAT how ANY race should act to stop a problem?

We live in a 60% black, 40% white and ONE indian that we know of. He ran off a punk kid gang inside of 6 months that the cops tried to stop for two years, NO gun in his hand either.

I lived 3 miles from that are for almost 4 years. ALL night the sirens ran and even the black police hated to have to work there.

That 20 mins was on tv and the police officers in all cases were correct in their trained actions. There is NO reason for ANY race to gather to over a 1000 (and more they refused to stand and call off their assigned numbers) to TOTALLY destroy others lifelong work!!

Wanted ans supposedly behaving hands up drops his hand on a dark street to his side (No matter the race) the officer SHOULD shoot! Not like he wasn't told and warned eh? Just call that a foolish move he can't repeat!

That ABSOLUTE last I have to say is this little bunch of punks that USED to be here. He saw a 14 year old kid running for his alley gate while working on our new fence. A pit bull from a punk had been put on the kid. Opps they bother were black and ne knew neither. He stopped that dog and chucked his butt back down the alley. Two hours later dealt with 14 'kids' all bigger than him. He is here and all 14 left this area. He was seriously hurt and for some kid that has never even looked him in the eye.

I truly AM sorry that kid blew it and was killed. I'd feel worse if the cop had hesitated and was dead. Lets not mention the cop that was just shot down there in the oh, um ok things those people were doing. He had a vest on. Those people that lost their businesses must have blown it and been responsible for their own destruction of course. Killed or lost it all because of alot of the people they were there to serve for. Probably charged a nickel too much on fries, out of catsup etc.

I could do this for hours. I have lived as a pacifast so long never seeing the truth. The will of the people is the majority. Not a handful of half cracked jerks.

I have also lived all over the United States and am always sickened by these types of BLACK riots. There is no excuse whatsoever for this shit. For those of you who think that history is an excuse to riot today for an individual incident that they have no clue of that the actual facts are then you are too ignorant to even discuss this type of issue with. I was arrested one time and taken to the Sacramento, Ca city jail where the white cops were mocking me ( I'm white ) calling me college boy etc. I pretty much laughed at them for being ignorant and when I asked the sheriff's deputy if calling me names was part of his police training that earned me a nice private cell and a beating including being kicked in the face by a booted foot. I was left chained to the ground with my hands behind my back for two hours. I was taken in for DUI because I was standing on the side of the road with a friend who was actually driving the car and the car had broken down. He was puking drunk. I was barely .01 but I was the one arrested because I was the one who could talk and the cops didn't want my friend puking in their car. They left him there with his car and arrested me. hmmmm So I was beaten for no reason other than daring to talk back to the cops and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. If my beating had been videotaped would the city of Sacramento have risen up and burned South Sacramento where the blacks live?? Of course not...so yes, it is always a damn trajedy when the police have to shoot someone but dammit..it does not give BLACK people the right to burn and beat white people for historical justice. By the way..the only times I have ever been jumped on the street was by....BLACK PEOPLE. And yet...I still find it hard to judge black people as a whole for this. I have black friends. I hire black to people to work for me and one of my very best friends for over twenty years is black ( and gay ). So this general attitude that historical injustice, regardless of how long and bad the history is, justifies black rioting and looting is ridiculous. If you use that "history injustice" argument then blacks and whites will be fighting like Jews and Palastinians...forever. We, however, are better than that. As Americans...black or white...we are one people and I am proud of the intellegence and strength that the black people bring to our American family. I just wish more black people felt the same way.

DTHC, well put my friend. I go to Detroit a couple times a year and on a few accasions I ended up downtown and got lost and ended up in the areas where people lived down there. You drive down the steets and people stop to look at you with blank stares like you're not allowed to drive down their streets or something. I'd like to see her live down there and see how she likes it.

I get frustrated when I see a country that treats some of their citizens so indecently (the cops and the rioters). Especially when the person I love most is one of those citizens.

The fact is, not to get off track, the police treat black people differently, and it's too often that it is in a violent fashion. Violence is Violence. You're right..2 wrongs do not make a right. Not all black men are bad or absent fathers. He was there from day one and has never left. WE could not get along, so WE seperated. He is a successful businessman who has always taken care of his son physically, financially and emotionally. He is one of the best fathers I know. Even though he is in Oregon and I've been down here for a couple of years, he still sees him every couple of months and all vacations. Calls him every couple of days. And when I was in Oregon, he took his every weekend, even though he was a young guy and wanted to party, and ANYTIME I needed a babysitter and he wasn't working, he was there. And when my son decided a couple of years ago that he wanted to try living with his dad, he raised him for a year and a half, all by himself, very well.

My only point in bringing up the fact that I have a black son, ex, friends and family was too express how important this is to me. I love these people and I hate to see them discriminated and treated differently because of their skin color. I have seen it too many times with my own eyes. It was not to make it seem as if I'm some kind of wannabe like that one guy said.

Over the years I have seen so much of the bullshit that they have to put up with that I cannot help but empathize with their anger and be fearful for my son.

Police predjudice and racial profiling is so prevalent, and as if the day to day racism from their fellow americans isn't bad enough, they have to put up with those in power treating them poorly, sometimes viciously and violently.

I hope I have made some good points, I know I didn't touch on a lot that I should have but it is early as hell and I haven't had my coffee yet.

Sorry for such a lengthy post, but I just caught this tread and wanted to catch up. I don't dislike anyone for what they've said here and I want to make that clear. We're all entitled to our opinions and that is what makes the world such a fun place. The only time problems occur is when people try to force their opinions on others and/or act on their opinions without first bothering to find out if their opinion is backed up by reality/facts.

Slick, even if he's guilty of 14 misdemeanors, the death penalty is a little harsh. (the examples they gave in the news was receiving stolen property and driving without a seatbelt - both things I've been guilty of)

Most likely he was afraid of the police rather than jail. Black people aren't born with a fear of the police, the police teach them.

White people are actually more likely to riot than blacks, statistically speaking. More riots have occurred in London than anywhere else in the world. And you're right, riots are pretty dumb - they're destroying their own neighborhoods.

I believe you when you say you didn't want to start a hate post, it's just that some of the arguments you've came up with are very inflammatory, and the way you say them makes them sound worse than you probably realize.

The college thing is just silly though. Did you want to go to an all black college? For hundreds of years teaching a black person to read was illegal - is it really so much to ask that they have a couple schools of their own?

Susan, I'd love to share the actual facts with you. My friend Pete and I went drinking. I had 5 kamakazies over about 6 hours. I am 6'2" and absorb it easily. My friend had about 10 drinks and at 5'9" and 160lbs it hit him harder. We left the bar at about 1am. About 125pm the car died on a side street down the street from a gas station. Pete pulled over to about two feet from the curb. We got out and within a few minutes Pete started hurling. After about a half hour of waiting for him to stop I decdided to get into the car to see if it would start. As soon as I got in and sat down a California Highway Patrolman pulled up. They could have cared less what I had to say. The only thing they saw was me behind the wheel and they arrested me. At the Sacramento County Jail they processed me in and put me in the drunk tank. Even before they put me in there I had blown barely .01 on the breatholizer. They had already been calling me college boy and giving me attitude. In the tank I sat for about an hour and knocked on the door and asked the deputy if I was going to allowed to make a phone call anytime soon since I had to be at work by 9am the next morning. He took me out of the tank and told me to get up against the wall. He told me to put my right arm behind my back and took it and tried to twist it up and pull it up. Like I said I'm 6'2 and 260 pounds, weightlifter. I told the cop that if he was trying to hurt me he wasn't suceeding. My exact and only words. I did not resist in any way. Then I was put into the isolation cell and left for another couple hours. Finally I again tapped on the door with the convenient handcuffs I still had on. Again..all I wanted to know is if I could make a phone call so I would not be a no show at work. Not once did I resist, raise my voice, or do anything other than what I was told. This time asking the question got me chained to the floor lying on my stomach with my hands cuffed behind my back. About 5 minutes later, 5 deputies came into the cell and kicked the hell out of me. Now I did have something to say. I called them a bunch of communist cocksuckers that belong in Russia. Dammit this is America and I did nothing to deserve being beaten like that. That is just the police mentality. Doesen't matter if you are black or white. Blink wrong, open your mouth, or do anything at all they don't like and you may be in for a beating. Ask deputy sheriff Walters of the Sacramento County Sheiff's dept to confirm my story... as if.....

That is the actual fact Susan. Believe it don't... I was aquitted in court by the way depsite a "public defender" who tried his hardest to get me to accpet a plea bargain. ha

If there's one victim, that's enough, we don't need to have other people's lives ruined because of another problem, that gives a domino effect.

Sure, some people don't agree with the legal system, but that's all that we've got to follow, it's up to THEM to provide justice, not a bunch of ignorant assholes. Riots just cause more hurt and pain. Why not make a peaceful demonstration, look at down in Florida with that Cuban boy, they showed a HUGE demonstration and nobody got hurt, THAT'S how you show a point, not trashing your town and hurting other innocent people.

I'm sorry if any of my comments inflamed some of you, these are my opinions, that is what this board is for right ??? Those are my opinions on the matter, they might've gotten carried into the wrong areas or interpreted differently than I originally wanted them to, but shit happens, he he he.

Anyways, I'll get some other replies on this matter tomarrow. I'm sorry for not getting to some of your replies here, but I will tomarrow, I have a LOT of stuff to take care of here. I spent enough while I was on here last night, he he he.

I don't condone rioting or violence but I think that this type of riot stems from an overall sense of frustration and a feeling that conventional forms of protest are inadequate. Regardless of who is to blame, the recent rioting in the OverTheRhine area is a clear indication that things are not going entirely well there and everyone involved should work together to eliminate the causal factors that lead to this.
