Masking Affiliate Links - Yes or No?

Back in the day I used to mask affiliate links by using a redirect plugin.

    So, something like sponsordomain.com/aff?7657456BC

    would become mydomain.com/go/sponsor

Is this still a thing. Is it bad SEO practice?

Why is it better to do it on a subdomain?

For wp I prefer to use https://thirstyaffiliates.com/ but their are several others you can use. Creating your own shortlinks could also work https://yourls.org/

Such url's are made to be be more user friendly , not for seo. Either way, it is good to use them, regardless of purpose.

They look cleaner, and surfers tend to see the URL bar left down before clicking, and this helps a little to get those peekers clicking, and some of the plugins provide click statistics nice bonus
